Dark Continent is going to be an arc about human ambition. So far, the villain ladder is as follows:
Kakin shitters - no need to explain, ambition galore leads to all kinds of gross stuff
Beyond - unstoppable ambition to explore the Dark Continent
Pariston - his ambition is association's prosperity, as well as pursuit of ambition in itself. So far pariston is a bit of an idiot prodigy child, raised by Netero as a super-useful tool for Hunter Association. But after Kakin Empire, Beyond and possibly Spiders/Kurapika/Hisoka royally fuck everything up Pariston will probably dig deeper into his own personal wants. He already shows signs of it, he wants to see the "game" to its logical conclusion but doesn't know why exactly. It's basically going to be Killiua's emotional awakening except much more bloody and fucked up.
At least, this is what it seems like so far. We haven't got much material to base any solid theories yet.

I think the last HxH villain will be Gyro. Hisoka will die somewhere on the way. Pariston is a broken human, but I don't think he will ever become a real villain. I can see him meddling and doing business with the bad guys.
