This series (1999+OVAs) is a real treasure trove for comfy themes. Post your favorites.
>2011 is better in every other conceivable aspect.
...this nigga serious?
It has worse animation, worse cinematography, worse color palette, worse VAs, terrible pacing, fucking annoying all-knowing narrator, and tons of skips that come to bite its ass later on.
And this is honest to god opinion of someone who marathoned both 1999 and 2011 versions back-to-back earlier this year, for the very first time.
>Kurapica basically means Dick Heal(er) in portuguese
What did Togashi mean by this?
I haven't laughed this hard in a while, you just have bad taste if you actually think 99 surpasses 11 in any way
And why should I?
You still haven't even tried to prove me wrong. Or rather, you've probably never even watched the 1999 version.
The presentation and production values of 2011 version are just embarrassingly bad. They totally butchered the Yorkshin arc.
99 also has this scene.
Just watch this webm, listen to the OST, and read the manga, and you'll have gotten everything of value out of 99.
Again with the fucking anime shit flinging.....
I've always wondered what Neferpitou would look like in 1999's style?
I've watched 99 all the way through, and it was all mediocre. The poor animation, characters whose designs were off-model at random intervals, music that sounded like it was made with a soundboard dingy ill-lit backgrounds, pointless filler, and unnecessary baffling story/character changes. The voice acting was the only redeeming quality of the show.
>And why should I?
Wow, I didn't really expect you to double down on your retardation. 8/10 bait anon, good work.
Shame you felt like that, but I disagree completely.
The audio thing is simply because of the limitations of late 90s tech and lack of availability of modern sources. Still beats the terrible OST of 2011, any day.
>anything I cannot answer is a bait
gr8 b8 m8 I r8 8/8.
Hunter x Hunter starts slow in all of its forms, but it's far more than worth it in the long run. I would recommend starting with the manga, but if you have ADD or can't read and must watch an anime, definitely do 2011.
It gets a lot better, don't drop it just yet.
I personally watched ep1 of both 1999 and 2011 versions before deciding. Didn't like the Fox-kids looks and the absolutely crazy summarization of the start in 2011 version (they pretty much skipped Gon's childhood and jammed 3 eps into one), so I started with 1999 version.
And boy, am I glad I did.
I personally prefer Shonen action in animated form too, especially when it's well adapted like this.
Yes, because a symphony orchestra sounds so much worse than several dudes in a room with some synthesizers. And no, the decade they were in doesn't mean anything, there were great orchestral soundtracks in those days
Read the manga, it's super easy to read and engaging as fuck, Togashi knows his shit.
That looks nothing like 99.
Here, I fixed it.
It makes it look like its night time even during the day in some sequences. Objectively bad color palette. 2011 has a nice diverse color palette, which matches the diversity of tone in the manga.
No, he just wants to shitpost.
Why would everything need to be done with an orchestra? And you have any idea how much hiring one would've cost back in the days?
Plus, anything Hisoka and Kurapika, not to mention the entirety of Yorkshin, had great music.
manga > 1999 >>>> 2011
2011 is just visually irredeemable on all aspects and represents the boring and soulless digital anime look to a tee. 1999 is art and the manga is the purest distillation of Togashi's ideas and hence the most superior of all. 2011 completely butchers the Chimera Ant arc so there's no reason to watch it.
>purest distillation of Togashi's ideas
Say whatever other bullshit you want, but you give yourself away if you say something retarded like this.
>better scene compositions
>better effects that dont look like over the top dragonball z effects
>better and more organic looking background drawings
>better ost (2011 has a few good tracks though)
>better animation and choreography
>more frames per second
>consistent artstyle that blend in with the things listed
If you disagree, you are a pleb that needs to kys or educate himself/herself.1999 is objectively better in everyway
>implying I give a fuck about 99
What happened in it does alter that the video you posted is literally a slideshow with voice over.
Read the manga where the medium is actually well utilised, secondary.
Accusing 2011 of being a PowerPoint is unwarranted when basically every anime is a PowerPoint. Animation is barely utilized as 80% of shots are just static with mouths moving and maybe a moving camera
Well, I guess I'm in a league of my own
2011 Killua is objectively better and that's the only thing that matters.
Super fucking dark with jazz music.
But on a serious note. Probably won't since animation seems to be declining over there. Honestly I'd be happy if we just got OVAs or something.
Please, i was simply stating the obvious quality gap between both of the adaptations. You are the one being pretentious and edgy here since you cant even bring yourself to argue about anything.
>muh vibrant colors
>muh generic shonen ost
>muh god awful still animations
>muh amateur level artstyle and background drawings
>muh god awful facial expressions
Manga > Material covered by the 1999 anime = Material covered only by the 2011 anime >>>>>> Material covered by the 2011 anime that the 1999 anime covered
That's the actual tier list and if the people behind the 1999 anime had been directing the Chimera Ant arc it'd legit be anime kino instead of just good
Aw, the poor 99 teen can't even use words correctly. Such is the intelligence level of 99fags.
>actually follows the manga and understands what it's meant to be
>better animation and color palette
>choppy, weightless animations
>dark color pallete for a children's show
>every character is off model
2011 completely misses the point of the Chimera Ant arc. It's tonally different in all the worse ways and isn't even aware of itself as its own particular medium. It literally just dulls the color palette to distinguish itself while copying the narration ad verbatim. It's trash in every conceivable way.
How mad or excited would you bitches be if this happened.
I'd rather read a thread of Pitou gender shit than this endless slap fight.
Desu last thread was cancer but it redeemed itself with the homotalk at the end
Name one thing 2011 missed during the arc. Themes, dialogue, characters all were translated perfectly into the anime.
>captures the tone of the manga
>better animation, color palette, directing, storyboards, soundtrack
>naturalistic lighting and atmospheric
>elevates the emotions of the manga
>ruins the tone from the manga
>awful color palette
>looks just like any other shounen
Fuck off with this anime shit, discuss NenjaGOD, the next King of the Kakin empire.
The tone, the pacing, the visceral moments, Togashi's rough stylization (for lack of a better word), the narration not working in the anime, Gon and Kite's relationship, the bombastic soundtrack. The Chimera Ant arc is supposed to feel like something completely different than anything we've seen before but the anime keeps the same tone to a detriment.
Homoposting is comfier than 99 vs 11 posting
> muddy, over saturated bootleg paintings with lazily cellshaded models.
Literally worst that the uninspired, sterile digital paintings of the modern era.
>keeps the same tone
Now you're just being retarded. I agree that the pacing could have been faster, but every moment hits as hard as it should and it's noticiably more somber than the rest of the show, especially Gon's characteriztion. Also fuck you the narrator was based.
Did someone say homoposting?
Not trying to be edgy or call the 2011 version bad but it really soured my experience on HxH to where I dont even want to read it
I dont think HxH is bad (though I dont think its amazing either) but the 2011 version's pacing put me off and I just lack the desire to continue with it
The pacing is pretty good besides Greed Island which was rushed to hell, and Chimera Ant which was mostly slow. It was still far from unbearable when compared to Toei or Pierrot adaptations.
Illu only has the best intentions for Kill!
Killua doesn't deserve to be controlled, he's too innocent
I hope when actual Dark Continent arc begins we get an adventurous feel in it, I love adventure stories
There's a shitload of romance in the series
When are these two comming back?
One or two chapters from now. Gotta rap up the incident with pika, and maybe togahsi ends the volume with these two appearing on a submarine or some shit. Or Ging style riding a big animal thing
Who knows, maybe because because they are both very short and black haired? They have that in common
The rational behind it makes sense when you channel your inner autism. Feitan into the beautiful little girls so he'd be all over Kalluto.
I want Pitou to eat me and nibble on my bones
One of the best scenes in Yorkshin. Wish 2011 would have made homage to it.
Probably something like this in the left.
I can safely say now that it wasn't worth these threads becoming garbage.
This is making too sense. Now I want it to happen.
Truly HxH has the worst fanbase. Check this shit.
lol... nips are fucking weird.
Completely forgot about that.
I know what I will be doing tonight.
The culmination of all that HxH is.
>implying he was any reason to watch yyh
please we all know who we watched it for.
>Gets fucked over by Killua swapping badges
>still gets enough points and passes the hunter exam
I hope next we get to see Hanzo kill Nobunaga to show how much stronger he has gotten since the exam.
>that shit memory
They were off model in the anime fairly often. I've lost track of the amount of times they drew Gon as an anorexic used q-tip. Or how they constantly made Killua's head too big for his body.
Heck the infamous scene in Chimera ant art in particular stands out.
1999 isn't perfect, but you'd have to be fucking delusional to even imply that 2011 was anywhere near perfect.
Eeeeh, I don't feel like going back and reading all of it, get someone else to look
You can't say the databook has too many flaws when you can't even name three of them off the top of your head. Back up your claims or stop spreading misinformation.
There are some fa artists who do a real good job emulating the style
Redeeming about what? he did nothing wrong
>all these people using the shit encodings
come on lads
Believe me or not, I think it's what makes this serie beautiful.
It's so tiresome to see teenager romance everywhere , or romance at all.
There s more to life than two people wanting to bone each other.
>Not enough cute girls and romance in this series.
Too much all of those actually.
What did he mean by this?
The number 5012 on this page always confused me. What does it refer to?
You ain't seen nothin bois. Behold Latinamerican version.
They even gave Hisoka a french tone.
I love 1999 over 2011, but even this scene was too much.
I guess the best way to mitigate the 99vs11 cancer in these threads its by posting nice music or ridiculous shit like this
>girl wearing girls clothes
Did they get some random guy from the street?
It could be a representation of his head, just not the actual physical head.
I suspect his nen beast is an amalgamation of his collection of bodyparts, which does include pairo's head
"I came here because those idiots in 4chan were saying that the 2011 version was garbage and 99 was a masterpiece and then someone posted this"
Whoever you are, kill yourself.
It's fine, these are just screenshots from years ago.
Leave it to a killuafag to abandon a job.
1. Describes Potclean as conjuration
2. Doesn't list Baro's name
3. the whole Maha retcon debacle, not so much an error in itself but retconning a source leaves it suspect.
It's extremely nitpicky but those are what I noticed at a glance. I personally don't think it means much, but the entire book gives off a feeling of... incompleteness? Like Togashi had numerous chances to extrapolate on topics but instead we're left with little more than what we've already learned from the manga. As if someone was just combing through the manga to fill in the gaps.
Regardless, this databook was published two thousand-fucking-four and is pretty meaningless to me. There are SO MANY character parameters left listed as "Unknown" that it feels like Togashi didn't even write half of it. Like he seriously couldn't bother to make up a birthday for everyone? And damn Bonolenov's entire profile says "unknown". It's really like a staff member pieced together whatever he could extrapolate from the manga alone.
I'd really love a new databook for the current arc. Doesn't need to be 270 pages like this one, something small bundled with the magazine would be nice.
anyone knows the name of the Phantom Troupe theme in the 99 version? I don't want to have to listen through the whole OST to find it.
I mean the background music that plays when they're doing shit, not any image song or stuff like that.
I was just willing to believe that a book with the author's name on the cover was going to receive his full attention. I had no doubt that an editor or whoever would lend their hand to the process, but the sheer lack of info in something that calls itself a "World Guide" is suspicious.
Hisoka should have been female. Just think all the good Hisoka x Gon straight shota doujins we could have.
Might check the definition of animation.
Sorry had to say that even though you are obviously trolling.
>smears are QUALITY
fucking kill yourself retard, never post on an animation board again.
Sounds like boring as fuck, not threatening waifubait and you should kill yourself for even suggesting it.
I want Hisoka to fill me up with his bungee gum
>the first channel that showed cartoons consistently was a syrian channel called spacetoon that started in 1998, the 1999 HxH came on it dubbed in arabic on 2003 (not all episodes, most gory things were excluded because it was marketed to kids), it came under the name "Al Qanas" which means sniper
Reminder that we still have:
>"chrollo" using a fishing line (which is machi's ability, who was coincidentally in HA immediately after the fight)
>someone who looks suspiciously like the meteor elder in the crowd (which would also be a much more plausible explanation for why S&M behaved the way it did)
>chrollo making an absurd amount of puppets (the real user of GF was coincidentally in HA immediately after the fight)
>chrollo talking to someone on the phone in the middle of the fight (black voice was always controlled via buttons when Shalnark used it, the only time it was spoke into was when it was functioning as a regular cell phone)
If you really don't think Chrollo cheated you're just deluded.
Only thing I don't like about that is that the music is not hype at all.
You're going to O MY RUBBER NEN and you're going to like it!
Goodnight, me and my wife Pitou are going to sleep.
Pitou would never sleep with you. She's a pure girl.
