Paşam...

Episode 01 of the Anime and Chapter 96 of the Manga is out.
What's your take and opinion on the series?

>Shaykh Awḥad al-Dīn Kirmānī (d. 635/1237–8) was a renowned Persian Sufi who became notorious for some or celebrated by others for a practice knownas shāhid-bāzī (literally, “playing the witness”). For Kirmānī this was a ritualised activity that was grounded on a belief that God may be seen by contemplating pleasant faces that bear witness to divine beauty. Shāhid-bāzī in Kirmānī’s case meant gazing at and dancing with young men during musical concerts (samāʿ ), a ritual that for many practitioners culminated in spiritual ecstasy.

tl;dr
Beautiful boys aren't just for pleasure, they can literally help you reach God.

Even though the clip is titled 'Islamic society' it should be noted that this practice is not 'Islamic' in the slightest and even the Taliban strictly enforce against it.

If there are any Turkish military history-nerds here, was the Turkish Majra ever used for serious military purposes either in the Seljuk or Ottoman periods? Or was it mostly limited to archery competitions, hunting, or other miscellaneous activities? It seems the Persians sometimes used the similar Nawak when fighting more lightly armed Arabs during the Sassanid period, but I'm wondering if the Turks had any use for it when up against more decently armed foes.

I don't have an opinion about the series yet, but first episode was TERRIBLE, like hilaruously bad.

I hope it goes better for everyone's sake.

I'm suposed to belive this retarded guy is some sort of genius? Either the anime made an awful adaptation or the source material is not nearly as good as people say.
>>
>>159522085
The manga did a bad job on that part too, but in a different way. They dragged it for too long
>>
>>159522085
I'm not familiar with the source material either, but from what I've gathered, them rushing the first few chapters is for the better, as things seem to get far more interesting later on. I didn't mind the fast pacing of the first episode, but I can see why some would.

It sounds like you're already biased against this animu. You already posted the exact same reasoning in the last thread, and only a little earlier in the thread was your answer: the first chapters are rough but long, so they're rushing through to get to the good stuff. >Chapter 96

This manga is a unicorn because the art and plot are both good. Katou Kotono is incredible, she has more or less perfected drawing horses at this point.
I especially enjoy her attention to military details. The small Turkiye horses have had a lot of good exposure in battle, but now we're seeing them being crushed by the empire's war horses. I can't wait until Sense catches up to the raws, it looks like things get desperate.

>HTT is often approached for advice by US and British servicemembers who report encounters with men displaying apparently homosexual tenancies. These servicemembers are frequently confused in the interpretation of this behavior.
> As HTT has observed with frequency while on patrols in Helmand and Kandahar provinces, these men are outwardly affectionate toward both one another and male ISAF members, are extremely gentle in their demeanor and touch, and have often taken great care in embellishing their personal appearance with fingernails dyed red, hair and beards hennaed in careful patterns, and eyes very occasionally subtly outlined.

>In Baghram, British Marines returning from an operation deep in the Afghan mountains spoke last night of an alarming new threat — being propositioned by swarms of gay local farmers.
>An Arbroath Marine, James Fletcher, said: 'They were more terrifying than the al-Qaeda. One bloke who had painted toenails was offering to paint ours. They go about hand in hand, mincing around the village.'
>While the Marines failed to find any al-Qaeda during the seven-day Operation Condor, they were propositioned by dozens of men in villages the troops were ordered to search.

>>
>>159533953

It doesn't have any. Seriously, if you're here for shipping, the source encourage any so the anime probably won't either. Look elsewhere.

You're right about the directing. They crammed a lot into the first episode, since there's more content than 24 eps is going to be able to cover. Hopefully it gets better.
>>
>>159534311
It's not only the pacing, I'm talking about the directing. Look at the scene in which Mahmut and and his adoptive father talk or the scene in which he finds his mother, it completely fails to establish the gravity of the situation and the camera is almost amateurish.
>>
What a fag.
Wow.
>>

That, and they changed it so that he didn't actually witness anything. In the manga he's hiding inside the house whil his mother gets raped and killed, while in the anime he had been taking a stroll elsewhere

Its called The House in Fata Morgana, and the synopsys

>The House in Fata Morgana is set in a mansion, where the player character wakes up with amnesia. They meet a maid in the mansion, and the two visit the mansion in different time periods – 1099, 1603, 1707, and 1869 – to learn what has happened to its residents in the past, and to try to get the player character to regain their lost memories

I haven't played it either but I heard its not an eroge, just a pure visual novel with one of the best recent story line tho.
>>
>>159534378

Agreed, that was bad too, I just fell into the stock response because I hope that's what caused the lack of immersion. They're trying to reveal a lot of information about the MC before they've shown any reason to care about him. Constant close-up shots of big anime eyes are lame and a bit lazy too.
>>

>many Arabs today still see male-male sex in terms of dominance/submission
That's not true. homosexuality is not seen in terms of dominance submission. It's simply seen in terms of what it is: Male and male sex. And it's not seen in a positive light.

>controversial practice within the Sufis
That practice is not controversial at all. In fact that Sufi wouldn't be renowned if it was.

Most of inspection of homosexuality in the Near East and beyond by Westerners tends to be wishful thinking and desperation to try to paint homosexuality as if it was normalized. The fact of the matter is, in reality, the common aspect was pederasty and that was restricted to the Greco Roman culture and some of its leftovers. Beyond that, homosexuality was not approved and would be heavily punished. Vikings would kill those partaking in homosexual acts and so would other peoples including various Middle Easterners from ancient Zoroastrians to various Abrahamic peoples.
>>
>>159518328
Damn, the head wear is impressive
>>
>>159535179
It's pretty much reserved to Afghanistan. It's a cultural practice that's probably a leftover from Greek influence. You're a retard for thinking something happening in one country must be happening in other countries.

And putting all Muslim majority countries in one basket is retardation. There are very wide range of cultural practices.
>>
>>159536220
Looking at the manga and her use of Turkish words, I too got the feeling that she has knowledge of the language.

>Türkiyeli
I'm not even nationalist, but it still sounds awkward and forced to me. If she thought as far as not triggering people, my levels of feeling of sasuga for her will be even higher.
>>
>>159530065
>>159536315

>>
>>159518328
Is it true that there's no mainstream religions in this series?

I'm pretty sure I noticed some mosques in the opening/ending and the Turkiye city Mahmut lives? What's up with that?
>>
>>159536466
Actually mangaka supposed have "Turkish" friend that she asked lotta stuff before doing the Altair.
And i suspect that "Turkish" friend of hers is either actually Kurd or Leftist.
Like Mahmut's Turban on the early cover art for example, its identical to what Kurdish tribesmen wear back in those days...
>>
>>159536642
No Mainstream religions exists but their symbolisms are
Like you could see mosque and cathedral like buildings (even crosses and caliph's flag) but it seems Author pussied out last minute judging from early chapters
>>
>>159536543
I never said Arabs were Turks so I have no idea where you're even getting this from. I simply made a comment about one Arab view on male-male sex. Also, you're trying to paint male-male sex as limited to mainly Afghanistan and as a fringe practice shunned by most Muslims. Obviously, there aren't any countries that would be as open as Western countries about the legal status of gay marriages, but there's plenty of modern-day accounts of male-male sex that nevertheless persists outside of the state's watch, as well as plenty of academic literature tracing its practice in history. So if I am reading your posts correctly trying to marginalize homosexuality in the Islamic world, I am highly skeptical. Give me some papers to read arguing your point though and I'd be willing to change my mind.

Again, my original point wasn't that homosexuality was either widespread or non-existent.
>>
>>159536989
Oh I see, that explains it, thanks.

I guess still by placing mosques in Turkiye she's at least implying that they're Muslims right? She probably went with that "leave it to the reader to decide" thing.
>>
>>159537457
That's a anthill not worth stirring.
>>
>>159537457
Yes it 1:1 looks like an islamic mosque but it's re-purposed and no longer to do with islam. People re-purpose symbols and architecture all the time (take the swastika for example). I view it less as a pussy-out move and more as taking inspiration for her story while leaving behind the parts not relevant.

As a Muslim guy I love seeing Islam represented in anime/manga, so this show was one of my most I was looking forward to. I know its not 100% Ottoman and Islam isn't mentioned anywhere but it just feels good to see beautifully drawn mosques and "Muslim" characters in anime/manga.

Same with Magi, too bad there isn't much of series with Islam in it tho as I know Islam is still pretty small in Japan
>>
>>159537223
The anime is about Ottomans. And the Sufi you mentioned is Persian. The commentary about Arabs was offtopic. Anyway, Arabs certainly don't have the viewpoint you presume them to have. Meet actual people, visit the countries or read a factual book. Your assessment couldn't be further from the truth.

>Also, you're trying to paint male-male sex as limited to mainly Afghanistan and as a fringe practice shunned by most Muslims.
Wrong. Homosexuality is present pretty much everywhere where humans are. So is incest, zoophilia, and pretty much any sexual activity that are known to people. My claim is that homosexuality isn't common and not accepted in the Middle East, especially not in Arab countries.

>academic literature tracing its practice in history.
A lot of it is confusing actual homosexuality (sex between males for example) with poetry about young boys being wine servants. At best there can be a guess about homo eroticism, but even that is stretching it.

>Give me some papers to read arguing your point though and I'd be willing to change my mind.
Kek. It's like you're arguing about unicorns existing in some past and I'm calling bullshit on that. You can't really prove a negative. But you can certainly call out mythical nonsense. The burden of proof is on you. I've seen plenty of Western "academics" talking about homosexuality in Ancient world and in the MIddle East. It's mostly wishful thinking.

It's like Game Of Thrones in a way. It's historical (low) fantasy. Just like Game of Thrones doesn't have a real world religion despite alluding to some, the manga doesn't literally have a world religion.

Yeah it's not a pussy out move at all. It's just how historical fantasy usually works. It's hard to have real world religions and have fantasy in the same setting.

Ah, okay, the good old "only my sources are factual." I wouldn't mind having an actual discussion but if you're simply going to equate one side pointing out occurrences of homosexuality to that of proving the existences of unicorns, I can see that it'll be futile and a waste of time for both you and me.

Well, whatever, at least you're not one of those people who try to argue that homosexuality didn't exist at all until Westerners brought it.

The mosque on that pic looks like a copy-paste drawing of real Suleymaniye Mosque in Istanbul.

Impressing stuff from the author.

I'm sure you will get great rewards in the afterlife for your valiant defense of those kindhearted people.
Any other ancient people you wanna blame for what your degenerates are doing today?
