I love this film (my favorite #1 depending on the day).
I started watching Maruko recently, and it reminds me a lot of this film, very comfy.

The film is takes place both in 1982 and calls back for 1966 for very nostalgic scenes

Yeah it's kind of hard to name specific series sometimes.
I'd say Urusei Yatsura is a series that has it in plenty of episodes (it also has a lot of period episodes)

It's a weird period if you think about it (referring mostly to the post war Japan part of it)
It begun a lot of various Japanese niche things
Early Heisei then saw niches phased out while new ones or progression happened

when i think chinese cartoons portraying showa, it's generally 80s
that period is pretty boring for japan, devoid of tech etc
at best all you'd get are sol-tier series

I wish more anime took place during the showa era. I haven't lived through it but it seemed like such a comfy era even if in reality it wasn't.
