I know my favs are not perfect, but I still love them more personally than Lain for example. Lain is godtier and better than most of them, but it's not that close to my heart like the ones I put on the picture.

It's not really a trend but what these threads used to be about. Pictures that dont instantly give away what it is but have hints (in my case, theres always some major element of the show in the picture). Its supposed to make people bother with the grid, not just look at cover art to instantly know what it is.

I can't remember a single period when that was the case. Two years ago, five years ago, ~2009 when these became a thing, the majority have always been very straightforward, instantly-recognizable images.
