Under what circumstances do characters with edgy senses of fashion or personalities become enjoyable and well-written? Is it possible to do without reducing them to joke/irrelevant side characters?
Frankly, I never really got very edgy vibes from Tokoyami. He's more of a "classic" 80s anti-hero, heroic but struggles with his powers.
He's a total bro, loyal and polite. He's more like what >>159336070 says, and things like his obsession for black are used in a funny way, so you can see there's an actual character underneath that edge veil.
Bakugo on the other hand, is the perfect definition of insufferable edgelord, and I can't understand how people other than fujos might like him.

He's getting better

Birdboy is balanced out by being awkward and cheesy. He's almost never given the appropriate backdrop to complement his design because it's funnier.

Lord of Explodokills is liked for his ironic edgyness

When that edginess does not entirely define their character and isn't constantly throw into the viewers face.
