You got to understand how it works. You want people to buy the sequel by making sure as many people know the story up to that point as you can, and that meant trying to finish the original story in anime form if you can afford it.

It is now and issue of money, because the publisher actually overproduced the original GATE novels and had to accept returns from book stores. The anime helped boost sales but not as much as they were predicting.
