I thought it was really refreshing how cynical a character she was. Like, rather than being a tripe moe character who felt incapable of protecting herself, she was actually competent enough to get things done for herself. Which is infinitely more respectable.

But at the same time, I kinda liked the depth to her character, the fact that she puts on this act to deflect from her more cynical nature, which in turn is just a proxy so she can avoid getting hurt if/when things go bad again.

It was a slow-burn kind of love that I didn't realize I had until after recognizing that I wasn't able to stop thinking about Kino after days after finishing her anime. Still haven't stopped. 2003 anime Kino's cute in her own way but I love all iterations of her and am looking forward to next season (and dreading it because it's fucking Lerche adapting it).

I don't trust them after how messed Gakkou Gurahi up. MGRP was pretty good given how barebone the source was. I guess 'dread' was a strong word. I'm cautious about Lerche adapting Kino's Journey. Aoi Yuuki'll do a good job doing Kino since I've no doubt she has nothing but absolute respect for the work that launched her career and having worked with the original voice actress all those years ago, but it has the same director as the Persona 4 anime and the same script writer as SAO and Overlord, so I'm conflicted.

What I don't understand is why there are two manga adapting the LNs. I'm guessing one's to adapt the earlier novels while the other adapts relatively newer volumes?
