I unironically love these. They often lead to hype power ups, tragic moments where the character keeps fighting even though they've clearly lost (but shows their resolve in the process), and in the case of the first romances finally being confirmed. They all serve a purpose which is why you see them so often.

The only time it bugs me is when they do it in a setting that isn't the real world, or even when it is not in real-world Japan. The assumption in these cases is that whatever language the characters are speaking is just being translated so the audience can understand, but it makes no sense to interject Engrish into fantasy/non-Japanse languages.
