The anime is never coming back, because Togashi will die before finishing the Dark Continent. Both the Prince Succession and the Dark Continent involve a ton of characters and intrigue, which means it's impossible for Togashi to finish either of them in a timely fashion. Prince Succession should be 50-100 chapters, depending how involved characters like the Spiders and Zodiacs get; Dark Continent should dwarf the Chimera Ant Arc, making it at least 150 chapters. Togashi currently produces less than 10 chapters a year and he is getting slower. An optimistic estimate would be that he finishes both arcs by 2035. Considering he's incredibly unhealthy and he's 51 already. If he even sees 2035, he'd be 69. This is even assuming he doesn't slow down. So, no, we're never seeing the end of the Dark Continent or a new anime adaptation.

UNLESS: There's a strong possibility all of this is actually leading to a surprise time skip. Togashi is just as vulnerable to shounen tropes as everyone else and he hasn't had a real time skip yet. When you consider the fact that Gon needs to relearn Nen, and every other character is currently in a comfortable position to just progress their lives (Killua, Zushi, Gyro) or rushing headlong into Hell (Kurapika, Leorio, Ging, Hisoka, the Spider), in my opinion it's totally possible this expedition ends in disaster and the rest of the world is left to only wonder what happened to everyone who went. Cut to an older Gon having relearned Nen and Meteor City under the control of Gyro.

Yes, espeically if you are a fan of the 2011 anime. The manga has a grittier feel to it all around. I don't think 2011 made many changes, though. They did give extra scenes to Gon and Killua bonding in the exam, and they cut out the first chapter. But the manga feels more raw, and togashi can be really cleaver with his paneling. It give is great emotion.

In general all the conditions still apply, but Chain Jail seems like it would be an exception. Chain Jail came about because Kurapika cast Judgment Chain on himself, so I actually don't think a stolen Chain Jail would work unless they had the same Judgment restriction cast upon themselves. At the very least they'd have to make an internal understanding and would lose the power if they used it on a non-Spider.

If you really don't think Chrollo cheated you're just deluded.

About showing/telling, it's not just nen exposition where it happens. But for example, Hisoka was using cards to slice since his first appearance. We don't need a whole explanation and name for the technique ("shu" IIRC.) Other series do the same thing (imbuing ki into objects) without saying anything.

That particular training was pointless mostly because it didn't really introduce anything new. The fights/results weren't necessarily pointless.
You could make the argument that those characters ended up accomplishing nothing either, but that's not really important.

HxH just reads like a diary more than anything. It's about things that happen to the characters. If the story points out that Kurapika's revenge is hollow, or that Gon is selfish, it doesn't change that fact. There's rarely another side to the story.

What makes something "not shallow"? I don't really feel like HxH is attempting to defend itself on that front. Characters like Wing and Biscuit exist because the plot required them, and that's fine with Togashi. Those characters don't have a stake in anything else going on, and the actual development only happens to a very small group

I dunno, I don't think it's worth the time digging into details for this. The best I can give is impressions. Though, I do feel like One Piece makes an effort to have its characters feel like they would still exist without the plot.
