I genuinely liked Plastic Memories the more I give thought about

I genuinely liked Plastic Memories the more I give thought about it, the character, the dilemma and their resolution but I can't say the same after I finished Sukasuka. I've marathon both series but Plastic Memories resonated me more. Willem and Koturi's romance really didn't sell to me and I often see their drama as a melodramatic one. Isla is miles better than Kutori and I see Tsukasa better than Willem, maybe because Tsukasa chasing Isla is more believable and had genuine feeling.

Did I fucked up by projecting a different show? Because I really miss Isla. Especially when I saw Tsugi ga Kirei's sale boost after that happy ending and I feel Isla got robbed of her ending.
Jesus, I really miss her. Why can't there be more of her?

But that ideal ending is just wishful fulfillment.
Is Japan really that into tragedy? Isn't their birthrate tragic enough?

Plastic Memories made me cry like a bitch and I loved Isla but the show had a lot of faults, like the terrible attempts at romcom, the Psycho-Pass bullshit, and the modern tsundere bitch. It was still worth it, though.

Good enough execution shitty premise. I can't suspend my disbelief enough for these "robots". It's like whenever there's an alien or monster race and it's just literal humans except we're told they're not. No computer behaves like that. Though there was actual romance and feels so I got what I came for.

>>
>>159273703
SukaSuka is plain boring. It's preferable that they keep the ending somewhat in suspense before reaching it, but the rest of the show just fell flat. Plastic Memories is more of a slow burn. It's just incredibly cliche and corny but the characters are more likable so it's easier to care about their inevitable tragedy.

I'm in episode 8 right now of Shuumatsu, and I feel the same way. Their romance is weak and stale, and I'd rather to see them fight together with those monsters. I also don't like all the characters at all, none of them clicked on me to be honest.

I would've preferred this ending. It isn't even an asspull, Tsukasa worked who knows how long trying to get Isla to live. It also means the company wouldn't reuse Isla's body as per policy like in the original ending.
>>
>>159284889
No but I mean I get bothered whenever there's fiction and we're told of something that are not human but they end up literally just being humans but with a different name or have superpowers or some shit. I would like to think that the burning pits of hell, alternate dimensions, or the vast reaches of space can produce something more than just not-humans. That's just a nitpick of mine for any fiction though.

And it's not like I don't think we'll get androids. The problem here is that we're constantly reminded that these are robots without any actual traits of robots. And the actual "robot" traits of theirs behave nothing like how actual computers do. It feels like they're robots only so they have an excuse to have super strength and go apeshit. Just so the creators can pretend this isn't yet another terminal illness sob story. The whole going apeshit thing feels really forced and that's what takes me out of it. The fact that you could replace these robots with humans with a brain degrading disease is the problem.

And a bunch of other nitpicks with the actual computer parts. Who the fuck programmed them like that? At least have a safety precaution to auto shut them down or something. Who the fuck gave this company the OK to commercially release this? After using this car for 10 years it will spontaneous collapse into itself like origami while you're driving it. But don't worry it's not a bug it's a feature. Why couldn't they just replace the storage? Can they not just get a bigger hard drive or replace the faulty one? Just buy and external and shove it up their ass or something. Hard drives don't just go caput and your entire computer goes haywire and starts leaking your credit card information and social security number on purpose. Your computer behaves mostly independent from it and wouldn't just start doing random deliberate shit by itself. Even if robots become super advanced they're still computers. It's shit like this that gets my autism riled up.
>>
>>159285498
I guess I try not to take it too seriously. I do agree that I found the lack of focus on the sci-fi aspect disappointing.
>>
>>159285498
>Why couldn't they just replace the storage? Can they not just get a bigger hard drive or replace the faulty one? Just buy and external and shove it up their ass or something. Why do you think androids will even work like conventional computers in first place? The software problem is unfixable since even today scientists don't really know how even existing simple artificial neural networks actually work let alone those required to have a human-like personality.

Another fun fact: memory isn't only stored in the brain. Memories aren't a distinguishable part of our brain/neural system but rather an effect, just like "consciousness". Actually various things are "stored" everywhere, for example your gastrointestinal organs can "remember" if something tastes good and that's why you can receive new food preferences from organ donor in case of transplantation.

>Even if robots become super advanced they're still computers.
You don't even know what you're getting mad about.
>>
>>159285618
Because romance was the main focus, sci-fi was just part of the setting.
>>
>>159285645
I know. I was just saying that's how I felt after watching it.
>>
>>159285618
Good sci-fi is hard, good romantic sci-fi drama with a happy ending is fucking impossible.
It's like time travel. You are bound to fuck up or oversimplify stuff at some point.
>>
>>159285438
I think it would work a lot better if they had another episode to flesh it out more.
>>
>>159285438
>the company reusing Isla's body
This would be fucking heartless.
>>
>>159285640
I don't know shit about the brain or the human body. I'll admit that. But I at least have an idea of a conventional computer which is what I'm basing my and the creator's knowledge on. I really don't think they looked into research and papers on robotics and artificial intelligence. And it's not like we fully know how all that shit works either as we don't have them in your local Best Buy yet. They're probably just said this is a story about robots and that was that.

Give me a reason they go apeshit other than to cause tension and drama and shove action in a series that otherwise doesn't need it. That was my main problem.
>>
>>159285498
>Why couldn't they just replace the storage? Can they not just get a bigger hard drive or replace the faulty one?
Applying modern computer logic to sci-fi settings never ends well. For all we know, those robots may secretly be running on harvested orphan's brains that simply kick the bucket after being kept alive artificially for 9 years.
>>
>>159285618
That's why I still liked it. I was advertised a romance with feels and I got a romance with feels. I didn't get shonen shit or 25 episodes of nothing happening with 0 romance or feels.
>>
>>159285792
>But I at least have an idea of a conventional computer which is what I'm basing my and the creator's knowledge on.
You really shouldn't.

>Give me a reason they go apeshit other than to cause tension and drama and shove action in a series that otherwise doesn't need it. That was my main problem.
I'm not a writer of the show and they never give a reason, but if I had to guess...

In our world, memories are stored in specific pathways of neurons. We can remember things because our brain organises information in specific routes, and so when we recall things, impulses travel these routes and set off chemical reactions that occur in ways similar to when the memory was made. I think that the giftia's brains work in a similar way. However, the upkeep and homeostasis of cells and errant chemical signals in our brains are regulated by many different factors. I have a feeling the creators of giftia's don't understand how this works as well, and so that's the reason for their lifespan.

Just as alzheimer's in humans is the result of excess protein waste in the brain which cannot be removed, the giftia's probably eventually build up too much junk in their brains, which leads to neural degradation to the extent that they can no longer function. They'll still walk and respond to stimuli, but higher brain function is gone (similar to humans where our basic functions like breathing and moving are stored in the lower brainstem, which is more primitive). The only way to fix this in giftia's seems to be wiping the brain clean, so to speak, and starting over. The memories can't be preserved since they are stored as chains and pathways of synthetic neurons instead of in electrical or magnetic signals like in traditional storage devices. So the advances that let giftia's mimic humans also prevents them from being saved and transferred.

Instead of wasting time on retarded workplace hijinks (including the PsychoPass crap) they could've used that time to expand on this and get a happy ending, fuck ;_;
>>
>>159285704
If there is one thing anime taught me, you don't need science to make a sci-fi series. Just make something a fact and make a story based on that fact.

I'm conflicted. I respect them for not copping out on the ending and also making the finale fucking great (they didn't even use sad music for their last moments), but on the other hand I like this alternate ending because I really wanted Isla to have a long happy life with the MC.
