I feel like they changed all the characters too much, at least from the trailer. L is kind of the same, but Misa and Light are very different.

I think it *could* be good if they focus on the mental game between Light and L and it could be amazing if they make good use of Hollywood's inexplicable to need to fuck with source material to clean up the latter half a little bit. Not sure about most of the casting yet, except Dafoe is probably about as perfect of a western Ryuuk as you're going to get.

Unfortunately it wouldn't surprise me the least bit if they make it a shlocky hybrid of a western crime procedural and a mediocre action flick.

Light was popular, smart, and attractive. He was shown to be a model student. The first time he used the death note he thought it was just some joke and used it because he was bored.
And he was also good at manipulating people like Misa, and even members of the Police. He even tricked Naomi and Ray, two FBI agents, into giving him their names.


This live action Light looks like a lesbian, and got the shit kicked out of him, presumably standing up for the chick during the ally mugging. Making it look more like he'll use the note book out of pettyness towards being beat up.

Also the girl (presumably Misa) is the one who talks Light into using the note book more, which is out of character for him. As is his feeling of "not being the good guy anymore" because Light was shown to believe he was good and in the right no matter who he killed because it was all for a better world.
