Yusei and Aki never do anything in the show proper, to the ire of many fans, but only their VAs have ever talked about their relationship and interviews with writers and the director never touch the subject. You can theorize that neither of them wanted a relationship to get in the way of their life goals and eventually did hook up, but nothing happened in the show and unlike DM there's not a writer saying "yeah it probably happened".

Kotori confesses to Yuma, but it's a half-assed confession that an idiot like Yuma could've easily misinterpreted and it's left open-ended anyway.

Yuya and Yuzu definitely had onscreen chemistry going and eyefuck each other multiple times, but like 5Ds nothing happens in the show itself. It should be noted, though, that as much of an EGAO-obsessed whore Yuya was, he was 400% ready to completely ditch his entire philosophy if it meant he could save Yuzu when she was right there in front of him. Nah, elemental heroes have some pretty damn good fusions, better than their masked hero equivalents in terms of effects even. The problem is that as classic fusions, they require spell cards to create them and a lot of components and a good hand, while masked heroes can fetch the spell cards needed via elemental hero shadow mist or anki, and their fusion monsters only need one component rather than many.

That doesn't change the fact that stuff like E-Hero electrum, that is able to return all banished cards, and rainbow neos, that is able to return monsters, spells/traps or the entire graveyard back into the deck can really mess up some of the meta (or Z-arc). It's just without topdecking, you won't be able to make them reliably.

A huge source of his conflict (or at least the actual conflict) is that he wants to destroy the enemy and save his waifu and his friends, but at the same time he wants everyone to smile and be happy, even the enemy. Just watched it, the GX manga is worse than the series. Only has recycled plot points from DM, in particular the main villain, the duels take up way too much pages and suck up character development while being no better (and that end villain tag duel flat out sucked).

It's version of Judai and Manjoume were different but good in their own ways, sho was improved and the hibiki's were good characters that I'd like to see more of, but everyone else got the shaft.

Yubel was what allowed Judai to resist all this, and the biggest reason why he had to manifest himself directly to try and force her out. The reason darkness was defeated was also not straight up being overpowered but due to his own mistake; in his eagerness to convince judai to surrender by showing what his friends were going through, he opened a portal that was what allowed him to bring them back instead.

For what it's worth, I think grandpa Yusei was far better conceptually than any of the others. I actually think the idea of a guy forcing himself to become an imitation of a dead hero out of desperation (to the point where he effectively erases his own personality in service to it) a really fucking awesome concept especially.
