just got past this part, how did Togashi get away with O MY DEMON GRAND ATAVISM
seriously this shit is worse with asspulls then HxH
>>159224026
spoilerhe jobs at the end
>>159224026
It was cool when I was 12 so I assume it was cool to shonen jump readers.
Kids don't care
>get away with it
well I mean people generally consider this the part where the series took a quick dive downhill but I guess people loved the series enough overall so he's still popular.
>>159224192
yah i pretty much came buckets when he went all ssj3 then i was so confused and angry because of >>159224135
>>159224026
was the sensui fight better than toguro?
>>159224026
>implying anyone cared after the dark tournament
>>159225335
I did tho
>>159224026
Whole fucking series was a series of asspulls.
I love this mangoa nd all but you cant deny
>Cigarette
>Swamp
>love for keiko thats so strong he powers up
>genkais spirit orb
>Toguro """""killing"""" kuwabara
>the whole fucking sensui fight
Hes good against mooks until the big bad where shit blows up into his face and his potential keeps unlocking
I'm ten episodes away from the end. How the fuck is he going to wrap this up so quickly?
>>159229234
Like most animes do. A beach scene and some melodromatic j pop
>>159224135
I actually like that he lost in the end. If he somehow came out on top against demons that were thousands of years older than him I would have been pissed. Sure he's the MC but he was training as a demon for like a year, no fucking way he deserved to win.
>>159229234
One of the most hilariously abrupt endings imaginable
>>159229234
All this set up is leading toward another fucking tournament arc for the ending I shit you not
the last episode of the anime was pretty good imo
I watched this and loved it as a kid on toonami and then it randomly stopped airing towards the end of the sensui arc
I never finished it
should I?
>>159229970
It's not a great ending by any means but sure.
>>159224026
it's just HxH with more jobbing and more asspulls. fucking togashi
YYH > HxHHxH should have ended at the world tree, YYH should have ended after the black tournament
>>159233037
if only Togashi had the choice to do so
Never hated the demon ancestry shit.
I wasn't disappointed that Yusuke couldn't beat a villain with his own power. It shows that he isn't the strongest and then the demon world part was really sobering.
Like bitch you ain't shit.
Saw some hate for the YYH ending on chan before seeing the end.
I thought the ending was done pretty good.
>>159234901
>build up confrontation between the 3 kings for first half of the arc
>LOL NOPE FUCK IT LET'S JUST DO A TOURNAMENT INSTEAD, NOT LIKE WE HAVEN'T HAD 2 OF THOSE ALREADY
in what way is that a pretty good ending
>>159235001
How else would they settle their differences? Also it's not as if Raizen could even fight. Bitch hadn't eaten shit for 1000 years.
It's not like Yusuke would know how resolve shit without it being a tourney
>>159235096
>How else would they settle their differences?
through the actual 3-way conflict that was being set up? instead of a lazy tournament arc?
>no kurabawa or any humor in the last arc
>all grimdark edgy shit for second half
>toguro being classified as a upper b class demon
>stupid focus on classes and power levels
why is this hailed as the greatest shonen again?
YYH was one of those shows that I watched like half of Toonami back in the day, but just never managed to see the whole thing.
So now I'm thinking of starting from the beginning and just doing the whole show. But, like, should I just read the manga instead? Can anybody who's actually seen the whole show or read the manga give me their thought on this?
>>159235186
the manga got togashi'd so no
the anime is fine though. the story is just as bad in both versions.
>>159235186
I watched it because of eyepatch wolf on youtube.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5DHEr87uwgE
However by seeing it all, I can say the anime is the most solid thing ever. Doesn't reach great heights and lows.
According to the video it is way better than the manga.
>>159234705
It WAS his choice, dumby
>Try to pick up where the anime ends in the Manga
>The elite troops in the spirit world tries to bomb the spirit world
what?
>>159235258
>Missing the hints
Mfw
>>159235312
is the Manga way superior than the Anime? Tried to read the Manga from the start but it still feels like I should read it weekly since it's very episodic.
>>159235357
No, keep reading! And yes it's a bit better, especially considering how censored the adaptation was.
>>159235248
I watched the first episodes and read the first volume.
The manga is a horrible mess and is obvious Togashi is just pulling shit from his ass on a weekly basis, the anime does manage to make some sense of it but it's still full of plot holes and inconsistencies, I don't understand why to this day people still think this is a good series.
Kurama and Kuwabara do save the anime and I'll forgive Hiei for being edgy before being edgy was cool but even as an oldschool shounen it's still shit.
>>159235437
Kuwabara MVP of the show.
I didn't know the MC name for the first 10 episodes.
>>159235437
First volume is literally the best part of the entire series. The dog chapter is more memorable than anything in the DT.
>>159229488
People who think there should have been an "epic" fight with Yusuke in the finals is a shameless power level faggot
>>159236689
you're retarded if you don't think the ending wasn't rushed to shit
>>159235258
IIRC the only elite troop was Ootake who was fired from his position as chief of the SDF, the rest were extremists that wanted to Make Spirit World Great Again
>>159236707
Honestly it's probably for the best, since the anime adding that scene where Yusuke combines both sacred and demon energy was corny as fuck. Also Yusuke's existential crisis in the middle of the match was stupid
>>159224135
I'm ok with this.
>>159224026
I didn't like this at all, it defeated the whole purpose of the Dark Tournament where Yusuke proved that Toguro should have stayed with Genkai instead of being driven by a lust for demon power. And they definitely could have gone about it better, not the whole "he's the great^n grandson strong enough to unleash his true potential" crap.
>>159224026
Despite the "I'mademonLOL" turn of events, I really enjoyed Chapter Black, more so than I did the Dark Tournament. Sensui was by far one of my favorites, I just wish more of his past was shown to us.
Also, how the fuck is he going to move on if Itsuki has his soul held for ransom in another dimension?
>>159224026
Toguro did literally nothing wrong, but was still a scrub. Seriously, only B class? Weak my friend. Gin and the others trained six months and were fucking fighting S class demons.
I loved Maze Castle through the Dark Tournament.
Chapter Black lost its appeal halfway through, especially when Sensui became le edgy multiple personality man. Spirit Kings is a mixed bag.
>>159229488
Everyone from the dark tournament was reaching A/S rank thanks to Kurama so it wouldn't have surprised me at all at that point.
Even though I read like 2 manga at the time my 11 year old self could tell he was pulling stuff from his ass.
I still really enjoyed the series though.
>>159233037
You mean dark tournament? It was the worst arc minus the ending. Just trash fights with shitty endings after another.
>>159235186
The anime has absolute fuckton of filler (and it's bad bad filler) and actually changes things from the manga.
Read the manga.
>>159225075
Absolutely not.
>>159235176
I honestly think it's just nostalgiafagging, would also explain why people keep saying the dub is superior even though it changed stuff whenever it felt like it. I decided to rewatch it last year because I remembered it being great in my childhood but was terribly disappointed.
>>159239914
I agree with this, I think Chapter Black was a lot more enjoyable than Dark Tournament overall, although the Sensui fight involves so much bullshit it doesn't hold a candle to Toguro.
>>159229234
The tournament is mostly filler, while the manga epilogue is almost completely cut from the anime, reduced to a single episode.
>>159225075
Absolutely.
>>159229234
As I recall, the manga artist went through a mental breakdown at the time. Feelings of insecurity, time pressure and so on. As a result, he abandoned the series as quickly as possible, so the ending is renowned for being shitty and rushed.
>>159241882
No it doesn't.
>>159224026
Why is the dark tournament considered one if, if not the best tournament arc of all shounen?
>>159224026
Everything after the demon transformation cucked Yusuke out of the fight he wanted was pure shonen in spirit done and steered in ways people who came for purely for shounen battles didn't want.
We get the premise of a difficult war with everyone on different sides, but peace was achieved by everyone agreeing to be fighting rivals and no hint of conflict that's hyped actually pays off straight. Koenma flips the heaven bureaucracy while nobody's looking. Yusuke won the day and lost the actual fight. Not that we even saw him lose.
Friendship and effort won without any of the blood, sweat or cathartic suffering people wanted to see. There was nothing for people who wanted more of what they saw in Dark Tournament, despite there being a tournament.
The final conflict in the series is Yusuke picking between what colored buttons to press. Hardly a tough opponent, but there was almost as much at stake as the battle with Sensui... but there's no fun to be had for a fighting maniac.
...and shit Togashi writes will never be the same again nor will how the editors handle him.
>>159235251
I'm pretty sure he had to keep writing until his manga got axed; might be mistaken.
>>159244352
Read. The. Manga.
>>159233037
>Ending at the world tree
>Ending with a massive amount of unresolved plot lines
Fuck you.
The Demon ancestor thing sucked but Chapter Black is still a 10/10 arc up until that point.
>>159244631
Nostalgia
>>159244631
Because most people watched it when they were 12 and are nostalgic about it.
It's very mediocre when you watch it today.
