- make the terrain be relevant to the battles (destroying or otherwise altering parts of it is also an option)
- make the movement/positioning options, as well as movement speed and characters' stamina/resource management be relevant
- speaking of stamina, the characters' mental/emotional toughness should also be important (being able to avoid making avoidable mistakes when tired/irritated)
- make the characters' endurance ("HP") understandable to the viewers when possible (this could also allow viewers to understand or estimate how much damage is coming from specific attacks, and understand, for example, why a character has to avoid being hit by specific ones). Avoid having a last-minute endurance power-up being a fight's deciding factor.
- make the enemies do smart moves (bonus points if they're also ballsy ones); for example, requiring the protags to come up with more elaborate plans to overcome the enemy's defenses (that would be satisfying to see; intelligence overcoming a tough obstacle).
- put emphasis on intelligence over raw effort, on pragmatism over chivalry/idealism. Have characters attack others during their entrance/activation/transformation phases, for example.
- have the characters analyze their opponents/teams and adapt their gameplans accordingly. Bonus points for having a good diversity in personalities/playstyles.
