I started watching this 3 days ago. I just finished Monogatari Second Season watching in release order. I was if the misconception that there was a best girl. I realize now that there is no best girl. There is only a worst girl, and that girl is crab. Any other girl is just as good as the other, even his sisters, even snake, even doll, but crab, crab is a fucking miscarriage of a character. I initially hated Cat, but she got some great development later on and made a character of herself. Meanwhile, Crab, has nowhere to go. She started off as a bitchy tsundere, she ended as a bitchy tsundere. It never progressed with her. She even blew the confession, flat out saying she loved Araragi right away. If she just kept her mouth shut, the series would be way better. That's what I thought. I was wrong. Crab is intentionally trash, the author know's that she's trash, or really, she's more of a wall per se. With her there as the trash barrier of shitty character, the series isn't a romance. The author can play up the romance elements as much as he wants, but he doesn't have to commit to anything. He can have every character have all this great progression but we already know that Crab wins. By blocking off any commitment with the trashshield, he can let the series progress naturally without having to base progression around the romantic aspects. Even when it seems like he is, like during Nadeko Medusa or Hitagi End, the relationship is a means to progression, not the focus. It was really all about the character development of Snake, not really about how much Araragi loves Shitcrab. Crab is a worst amongst numberable comparably best girls, any single character would be a better fit than her, but without her, the plot can't progress as it has. I'm still hoping that she's broken up with, but I hope that happens after the plot is done and can't go any further, when the time is right for her to be thrown out like the garbage she is.

It's literally not worth it. I watched it from the beginning while it aired all the way until Tsuki? I dunno, either way I literally have no compulsion to go back to watching it.

It's an incredibly mixed series due to it essentailly just being a melting pot of everything the author finds cool, funny, sexy, heartwarming, etc. There's no clear structure, the stories that make up its arcs can feel totally disconnected, the emotional tone and style of presentation can change in an instant, there's 101 characters who all have their own very different stories and presences. Go into it with zero expectations, and if you come out liking it, great, if you don't just drop it. Everyone has a very different experience with the show, it's not the kinda thing that someone can just explain the appeal of it to you and you'll suddenly get and start liking it.

Almost the entire main series has been adapted. The "final" part of the main series is getting adapted in August but there is still the "final-final" continuation novel volume to be adapted after that.

But the author hasn't stopped there and just keeps releasing more novels with no end in sight (the guy's a fucking machine), but the main story will probably be fully adapted by the end of next year.
