I refuse to believe Funimation has money, let alone even being profitable, to actually throw money at anime studios. Netflix and Amazon I can imagine, because they make billions from their main business.

Unless I'm completely wrong, anime is still not popular enough for an western anime-only company to make a big profit from. Maybe break even or 1-2% above, but not NFLX / AMZN level profit margins.

Has a streaming company ever announced the release of a new anime season before the production committee?
