> In the year 2048, the human race is forced to leave Earth after decades of losing against Godzilla and other giant monsters. They take a twenty year journey to another planet called Tau Ceti e, but upon arrival, they discover that the planet has become uninhabitable. As living conditions on their ship deteriorate, a young man named Haruo spearheads a movement to return to Earth and take it back from the monsters. The ship successfully makes the return voyage, but the crew discovers that twenty thousand years have passed and Earth's ecosystem has evolved, with Godzilla reigning atop the new food chain

Ok. Let's guess what the big plot twist is going to be. In Psycho Pass, it was the Sibyl is humans twist. In Madoka, it was the witches are humans twist. In Gargantia, it was the Hideauze are humans twist. I'm willing to bet Godzilla is actually a giant mass of mutated humans all fused to each other and joined by a hive mind. I wouldn't even mind it, it would be a refreshing take on the radioactive dinosaur.

But that Godzilla was just some sea creature mutated by nuclear waste and those things weren't actual humans but more like Godzilla's new, evolved form. I meant that Urobuchi would literally make Godzilla the result of a bunch of humans mutating together and become an insectoid hive mind sort of thing.

Goddamn was Shing Godzilla so fucking cool. There's no point in making a Godzishit ANIME when all normalfags want out of these is the spectacle and special effects, something a cheap 3D anime won't have.

Honestly this. His twists shocked me the first time around. Then it became boring repetition. The witches in Madoka, the Sibyl system, the Hideauze. So on and so forth. Like some anon mentioned above, I have absolutely no doubt Godzilla will somehow turn out to be human-related or even human itself. All he has to do is replace the word 'Hideauze' with 'Godzilla' and it'll work out.

Ok this Godzilla seems to have a distinct Lovecraftian feel to it. What's up with that weird blue orb thing glowing in its chest? And unlike previous Godzilla versions, this one seems downright unnatural like it's some sort of ghost. Look at its arms. They're almost spectral. Plus the dorsal fins can almost pass for giant trees if Godzilla lays down flat on its back. I doubt Gen will be using the nuclear mutant story for this Godzilla's origin. It's either literally a mass of humans or he's going the Saya no Uta route with Godzilla being basically Cthulhu.

That's so meta I would actually fucking love that.
>Godzilla was an ordinary sized man in a human sized rubber suit all along
>Atomic radiation projected his consciousness into the aether producing a kind of Brocken spectre effect where instead of his shadow being projected onto fog his consciousness was projected onto existence
>He was actually a NEET larping in a studio in Tokyo all along and thought the constant earthquakes were just natural

Urobutcher is the Japanese Jar Jar Abrams

The ending was rushed and messy, for one.
>>
>humanity can't win againts monster
>they escape without further research on planet destination
>target planet devastated
>nah fuck it lets go back
>goes back to earth and fight monster
Whats the point of runnnig away in the first place. Also,
>Manage to make spaceship to go to literally who planet but don't have the technology to terraform mars.

Someone on /m/ translated the timeline of the events that led to the start of the movie story

■[1] 05-1999 United States, New York-Boston area witnessed the appearance of the first of the giant organisms [Kaiju] named: Kamacuras. Estimated number of casualties: 2.5 million people.
It appeared suddenly out of the sea from the upper New York bay area. In 72 hours upon landing, it moved 330 kilometers northeast, destroying every area in its path. In retaliation, the Air Force used laser guided underground piercing bombs [Bunker Busters] against it.
※ The leading theory to explain the appearance of the Kaiju is the sudden change in the global environment.

■[2] 09-2002 United Kingdom, London-Manchester. The appearance of the Kaiju Dogora. Estimated number of casualties: 3.9 million people.

■[3] 11-2005 People's Republic of China, Tianjin-Beijing. The appearance of the Kaiju Rodan and Anguirus. Estimated number of casualties: 8.2 million people.
※ The tactical use of the biological weapon [Hedorah] was a success. The entire area of Hebei suffered an outbreak of pollution damage.

■[4] 12-2017 Australia, Sidney-Newcastle. The appearance of the Kaiju Dagahra. Estimated number of casualties: 6.7 million people.
※ Unidentified substance discharged from within the Kaiju's body caused wide bacterial infections. It continued spreading across Australia's east coast.

■[5] 05-2022 Turkey, Izmir-Ankara. The appearance of the Kaiju Orga. Estimated number of casualties: 1.15 million people.

■[6] 2030 United States, West Coast area. The appearance of a Kaiju different than all the others. The Kaiju Godzilla. Estimated number of casualties: 8.7 million people/Percentage of surviving humans:56%/World population estimate:2.3 billion people.
Los Angeles-San Francisco completely destroyed. Enormous damage incomparable to that of past Kaiju attacks took place.
※ 3 distinct Kaiju appeared simultaneously and were all annihilated by Godzilla.
>>
>>159158424
■[7] 2034 Western Europe destroyed by Godzilla. An all out attack by the EU allied forces failed.
Estimated number of casualties: 6 million people/Percentage of surviving humans:30%/World population estimate:2 billion people.
Paris, the capital of France fell. The whole of Europe is evacuated.

■2035 The alien race [Bilsard] landed in London.

■2036 The alien race [Exif] landed in New York.

■[8] 2039 Humans, Bilsard and Exif established the Earth union. With the help of the Bilsard and Exif, science and technology has advanced. Operation [Eternal Light] to recover Europe was successful.
Although the mass production and development of Kaiju weapons has accelerated. An effective plan for stopping Godzilla remains to be found.

■[9] 2042 Godzilla activity confirmed (Number of occurrences 8).
Kaiju Godzilla. Estimated number of casualties: 300 million people/Percentage of surviving humans:19%/World population estimate:1.2 billion people.
Living space disappearing: 50% of the whole East Coast of the United States, Northern Africa, Eurasian continent

Project team establishment:
Selective immigration plan started. Construction began of an interstellar immigration ship.
Temporary central government function moved to the outskirts of Rio De Janeiro.
>>
>>159158474
■[10] 2045 Operation [Great Wall] to confine Godzilla in the Eurasian continent is implemented. The transform boundary between the Himalayan mountain range and the Eurasian continent was destroyed using 2000 thermonuclear bombs. It resulted in the formation of a giant fault zone of 1km in width, 800m in depth and 10,000km in height. This succeeded in ceasing Godzila's advance for 1 year.

■[11] January-2046 Godzilla breaks through India's line of defense
Kaiju Godzilla. Estimated number of casualties: 200 million people/Percentage of surviving humans:13%/World population estimate:800 million people.
Godzilla confined in the continental plate, managed to break through one side of the Himalayan mountain range using his atomic breath. He disappeared in the Bengal bay.

■[12] March Lands in Hamamatsu, Japan. The final battle against Godzilla, ends in defeat.
■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■ loss
Continuing from the Indian peninsula. Mankind flees from the Japanese islands.
Kaiju Godzilla. Estimated number of casualties: 100 million people/Percentage of surviving humans:11%/World population estimate:700 million people.

■[13] 2048 Immigration plan for outer space is initiated.

>2.5 million
>3.9 million
>8.2 million
>6.7 million
>1.15 million
>8.7 million
>6 million
then suddenly numbers get two 0s more
>300 million
>200 million
>100 million
That's like only 637.15 million dead people (not counting other deaths from riots and falling infrastructure and infighting) total so far.
That's less than a billion.
Even if it's an universe where the appearance of those giant monsters has caused a constant population decline instead of a population rise, going down from what ought to be 6 billion people down to 700 million people surviving at the end of 2046 can only mean that mankind once again waged war against itself in the meantime.

I FREAKING AM NOT.
I want Butcher to go back to writing more Thunderbolt Fantasy and dump this Gojira shit.

There is no doubt in my mind humans will be fighting humans, fighting aliens and every other combination but it could be that it's not mentioning all deaths just the ones that happened at certain events.

But he already finished writing Godzilla, he's writing TBF season 2 and probably some other new original anime.
I'm hype for season 2, he said they're going to do more OP action scenes.

I guess the planet was more Earth-like than Mars. So no need for terraforming.
>>
>>159159633

The population loss is just a plot device to take USA out of the picture so the nip characters have a free hand. Otherwise they have to justify why the USA (muh only superpower) isn't dominating the fight against Godzilla.

The cast of main characters has a couple of aliens, a german and an italian american.
Also earth powers and aliens formed an alliance which become the new world superpower.

What do you expect from a film? Would you be willing to sit 3h in a cinema?
>>
>>159160556
Maybe because it's Godzilla?
Who has survived Man Made Black Holes, City Busting Meteors, in some continuities he regen'd from being broken down on the molecular by the Oxygen Destroyer. Even Marvel knew Godzilla is strong enough that Thor and Hercules combined would only slow him down at best.
I feel like you people seriously underestimate why Godzilla holds the title of 'King of the Monsters'

With Japan playing the leading role no doubt. It's much easier to believably portray something like this if superpower USA is not a thing anymore.

Also, don't come in expecting Hollywood-tier visuals and you'll be fine.
The characters take a similar role as to what they did in 86/the original.

Godzilla (2014) is nothing more than trite. Shin Godzilla was the real success and one the best things to happen to the series.

Purportedly Anno took control over the entire production and antagonized people in order to get the best performance out of them possible. For example, he said leaving things in the hands of Higuchi (director of the live-action AOT flicks) would lead to a disaster. And he edited the second trailer himself I seem to recall. Methods aside, it seems he got the results he wanted as the film was a massive success. But he appears to have burned some bridges.
