Just hope Kaguya gets some room to progress as a character. Shirogane's been great, really gotten to be cool rather than a bit of a prick. Kaguya's still pretty insecure and obnoxious, similar to how Shirogane was at the start, and it's her personal failings that are preventing the romance from properly taking root. If she stays all blashu-blashu "I hate Prez" tsun-yan, it's gonna be increasingly unrealistic that an absolute catch of a man will have his eyes set on someone who's just not on his level. Already leaves a bit of a bad taste in my mouth; I prefer how IB's romance worked to where Kaguya is right now. Of course, iff Kaguya can get her shit together, this is gonna shape up to possibly be the best high school romance there is.

Different guy, but I think I see what he means. It's a kind of flanderization. Kaguya was always insecure, obsessive, and occasionally quite irrational, but in this chapter it was played up to an almost sickening extent. A lot of what was going on in this chapter was pretty serious in tone, what with the olive branch being handed to Miko and the reassurance of Ishigami and Fujiwara, but then Kaguya's characterization was at the kind of level you'd expect from a maximum-goof chapter, more like the (abortive) summer trip one. What's more, this is a general trend in how Kaguya's being portrayed, with less and less of showing her being cool and impressive and more and more of showing her being insecure and pathetic. It's gone beyond the point of being a characteristic foible, and now it's obnoxious or even worrying. It kinda makes the reader wonder: why on earth should we care about what happens to someone who obviously has such poor control of herself and her situation? Why shouldn't we support Shirogane getting with someone who's more with-it, like Hayasaka?
Personally, I want to see Kaguya become cool the way Shirogane's gotten to be. It's kind of awful to see her just get weaker and weaker over time. It's that kind of direction which makes me a little uneasy with this chapter, and I think it's what the other guy was on about, too.

Kaguya is weak from lack of sleep. And you know from the tsundere strategy chapter that she has a very weak self control whenever she's not at her 100%, and that she lapses into depression whenever she's sick from the home visit chapter. She has worked hard under the scene to actually get him reelected and having him throw it away to help Miko must have been a hard blow to her. Not to mention it's almost been a year since she formally fell in love with him while not perceiving any signs of direct goodwill from him. Of course it's wearing her down.
If anything, her being able to get him reelected shows that she's still the old ruthless Kaguya in any non President related matters.

Totally - and it's good she's melting. The problem is that she's not gaining new kinds of strength while she's at it. Shirogane's "melted" as well, and in return, he's gotten way, way more compassionate, which has been a fantastic character arc. It's great to see him become a better person by means of the romance, which is what I always loved most about the manga's premise. If Kaguya can, for lack of a better term, "get over herself," then this manga is set for a fucking amazing conclusion. Right now, she's on a bit of a bad trajectory, which is worrying but not enough for me to say the manga's past hope (which is where I break from what that other guy was saying). I'm just a little bit on eggshells, because if it lasts too long, then it's going to kind of ruin the romance.

All of this is true, and yet we have to wonder why Shirogane, who's so goddamn kind and who has such extraordinary control of himself, would rationally want to be with someone who's so liable to "break." It's exactly the kind of situation which can set up for an abusive relationship, which is already a risk considering the incredible class divide between the two. What kind of lifestyle will it be, if every time Kaguya perceives a slight against her, she blames Shirogane for it? That's worrying.
Honestly, I do think that the reason that their massive class difference has been played down so much is because it's going to be what galvanizes Kaguya to be more serious. She's going to have to face the fact that their romance won't go anywhere if she doesn't take personal emotional responsibility for their relationship, the way Shirogane has, and will overcome her own doubts and fears to become a solid and impressive individual. Those would be valid points if they were dating already, but so far they've only shown themselves at their absolute best. Kaguya only opens to Hayasaka. Shirogane only has opened to Fujiwara. Regardless of how much they like each other they're still terrified of not being a good match.

I feel like she's been on the verge of a great breakthrough for a long time, but she still needs a big push to really get there. She definitely wants to be a better person like him, but I don't think she believes she can. Because of her insecurities, she seems to think that she's just awful inside and can't overcome it. But Shirogane's said many times now that he doesn't agree- he knows that deep inside, she's a good person. Sure, we've seen the things they do behind the scenes, but the point is that to them there's still the fear of rejection. Every display of love so far can be retionalized for them as an attempt to have the other party to confess.
Before you talked about Kaguya being liable to break, but Shirogane so far is unaware of how bad things are for her. He only knows Kaguya how he sees her. A proud, beautiful multitalented girl with a lack of knowledge of the real world, who can be shrewd to get what she wants, who is cute when she's shy and despite her cold demeanor is also incredibly kind. He doesn't know how desperately in love she's with him and any clue regarding her fucked up upbringing has been implied at best. He doesn't know about her internal turmoil between her family traditions and who she is as an individual.
He can't help her to grow if he doesn't know there's actually a problem there, can't he? She has taken great care in not letting him see the ugly part of herself because she herself doesn't believe he'd still be interested in her if he saw how she perceives herself to be. Same with Shirogane. He actually believes that if he doesn't perform to her level, he's not worthy of being with her. The how cute represents to him the fear of not being at her level.
Sure, they would solve this in a jiffy if they talked about it, but showing weakness is, in itself the main point of the problem. Is a matter of how they see themselves despite their achievements.

This chapter really makes me see how far we've come.
If this was 30 chapters ago, Prez wouldn't have said anything like "I need you" without getting into a major internal struggle on how to say that in a way that would give no opening.
And Kaguya would most certainly have not gone with just "good shit", instead likely putting him in the corner with "oh, you need me? how cute...", looking very hard on a way to "win".
And it's quite subdued as well, most would've gone way out of their way to point this out, but Aka just leaves that to the reader, it really says something about his writing.

There's nothing even hinting that Miko likes Shirogane though. If anything, she'll notice that his interactions with Kaguya match her initial impression of them being perfect for each other and continue shipping them. And Ishigami did suspect that Kaguya liked Shirogane, but after she denied it initially he got too scared of her to keep thinking about it.
