Definitely one of my favourite if not my favourite romance anime I've ever watched. I don't know why but this one feels a lot more realistic than most romance anime. Avoids all the drama cliches most romance anime fall into and just feels like how a romance anime should feel like. Comfy. The best thing I guess is that it didn't turn into a soap opera kind of drama with Chinatsu and Hira there.

Boring end. Truly the nips are creatively bankrupt in making good romance.

Quite frankly, at a loss of words as to how perfect this show has been. Hadnt it been for the CGI I doubt thered be anything they could have improved upon. Like many other shows, i think the value of this work only becomes clear to you once your older because of all the regrets, hope, nostalgia and desperation that comes along with growing old. Its like Non Non Biyori, a show you cant really appreciate unless it touches you because you wish to go back to being a child (and i say that while hating almost all other CGDCT shows). I can honestly say that I have never been more emotionally attached to two characters that Akane and Kotaru, and ive watched hundreds upon hundreds of anime, particularly dramas and romance. Agree with everything you said. This anime is the innocence humanity can have put into story form. As someone who has been watching anime/reading manga romances for over a decade now, this anime feels like its a long-awaited response to all the shit I've been through.

No trying to drag the plot with MISUNDERSTANINGS, no drama that lasts forever that could be solved with a simple talk, no stupid twist at the end split up the main couple for no reason. It's so real. It's amazing.

Tying a bunch of random and cliched conversations to the couple kinda cheapens their characters. You could read any other conversation between either fictional or real couples and go "yup, that'd be Akane and Kotarou". I guess it is only characteristic of the show after all, especially when you think about it having extremely cliched drama set ups like the heroine worrying about her best friend falling in love with her boyfriend even though in this show's case, that friendship was never properly established and was never made relevant afterwards. Just like the LINE chats in the ED, the anime is little more than a collage of loosely connected cliches.

Well you can turn it into one. My point stands. Of course this might simply be my subjective experience, but what I stated generally holds true for the people I am in contact with. Due to playing games (even though being 28 already) I have a lot of people to talk to. Young players, even 22-24 year olds, generally cling to shonen such as SnK, Ippo, BnHA etc. Shows about fighting and winning. The only people who are invested and dramas and vanilla romances or shows like NNB are the older ones, that generally range from 25-34. Most of those are labeled seinen for a reason. They are supposed to appeal to older audiences, so to me it doesn't come as a surprise that they actually do. NNB for example is just random shit unless you can relate to the characters, and the average 20 year old isnt nostalgic enough to think fond of his childhood yet. Thats something that just starts to kick in later I feel. Or at least, thats what my experience with loads of different people from loads of different countries has shown. And to me, I've experienced the same sort of attitude in regards to Tsuki ga Kirei. Most younger people consider it boring, while thats particularly appeal for the older viewers. Its not boring to us, its the subtleties and the non existent drama that makes this special in a way that is hard to put into words.

After how shit this year looked to be I'd never have expected that some show actually would manage to make it into my top10/15 of all time, especially considering how much I hated the fact that they actually opted for Akane to move away. See, I don't understand this. The show has a good amount drama, the only difference is that it quickly sweeps them under the rug to make room for the next drama subplot. I like vanilla romance stories, I love completely wholesome and innocent shows such as Daa! Daa! Daa!, but the trivializing of drama in this show really rubs me the wrong way.

I don't like how Akane is at one point supposed to be lost and finding difficulty in improving her performance, but then she just goes and succeeds anyway without the story showing a change in her occurring, without her making any compromises or sacrifices in any other aspect of her life. I don't like how much weight the writers put into Akane's and Chinatsu's friendship only when it's convenient for the drama; their relationship is hardly portrayed or explored otherwise. I don't like how Curly got away too lightly despite all the time he spent stubbornly defying his mom's advice. I don't like how, at the beginning, Curly is positioned to be this character who has a cynical view of school culture but that is neither explored nor has any consequence to the rest of the anime.

A show can be shallow and idealistic and still be fulfilling and inspirational, but when it has drama subplots like these and yet refuses to show the characters undergoing challenges, consequences and changes, it just becomes annoying to adults who had to recognize their mistakes and change something about themselves to overcome the difficulties in life.

It was stated multiple times that she trained every single day of the week. The reason why she failed at the first bigger track meeting that is being shown is because of her feelings and the insecurities created through Chinatsu basically saying "I know youre in a relationship but Ill still go for him". Todays episode made this even more clear. She bursts into tears from the sheer thought of them growing apart, which essentially was caused by Chinatsus confession.

Now what does that tell you, though? Maybe that the friendship never really was that strong to begin with. All you know is that Akane considers her her best friend. But in class, or generally outside of the track club, the two of them dont even hang out. For example at the field tried in e4 she spends as much time with the slut squad as she does with Chinatsu. Its probably even less. They are connected because they share a hobby, nothing else. At least there was nothing that implied otherwise. Now I agree that I would have prefered it for their relationship to be a bit more fleshed out, but I can also see why that simply would have been a waste screentime.
