Giving Brotherhood a shot. The praise I always hear is "it adheres to the original manga" which really doesn't amount to anything.
All in all so far hear are my thoughts:
-Given the subject matter of what is happening in the story at any given point. The drama is usually ruined by badly timed comic relief or characters not responding realistically to the circumstances.
-The music aften never matches the tone of big scenes.
-Fight choreography is..so so..
All in all I would say the original series was actually better.

Why do people watch anime now and feel the need to review it and pick it apart? I remember when I used to watch something and try to understand why they did what they did. Instead of bashing them I would just accept that it wasn't for me. Why don't you just watch anime to watch it?

The first 13 episodes are truncated due to being in the 2003 series, so they don't feel as serious as they should and are rather rushed.
That said, it gets better once the characters from Xing are introduced, though I'm still disappointed it cuts scenes from the manga like Mei's introduction.
