You know, I watched it recently and I gotta say, without the meteor stuff there wouldn't be enough interesting content to fill a movie, I don't think you can get a lot more ot of the bodyswap gimmick.

The meteor gave the plot much needed gravity and high stakes. I loved the characters as they were but it gave the film much more scope and scale.

The meteor was great, I really liked that contrast between how pretty it looked and how devastating it was. Also, I totally expected it to be just a pretty little thing to put on the posters, maybe with the added bonus of letting the characters know they're from different times or something.

What are you talking about? They only used it for comedy in a fucking montage. There wasn't even a good scene of either of them learning/sympathizing with each other's serious problems, just banal shit like working too much (which even then is played for comedy) and then all of a sudden they love each other and we have to make room for a boring guy does some shit to save a girl plot.

The meteor was only necessary because it was an excuse to give us more cloud porn.

It's not just comedy, the entire plot is based on the bodyswaps, they have the scene on the crater and everything. Without the meteor the movie would just be the montage stretched to an hour and a half. Maybe another way to make it interesting would be to focus on their personal drama, but that would be a completely different movie.

It would have basically been nothing more than Japanese Freaky Friday without that meteor.
