Is it just me or Sagiri's personality is awful?
I agree with OP that her design is great but everything else is a no-go. Selfish, prone to angry and passive-aggressive outbursts, doesn't want to talk things out. Her hikokomori/shut-in side is poorly written. She doesn't want to leave her room not because she's scared of people or shy (what kind of shy person shows themselves on stream in front of thousands of people) but because she's lazy and wants a free ride throughout life and doesn't care who she inconveniences. Her brother enables her to be that way. It was barely funny with Umaru because it was done in a tongue-in-cheek, over-the-top way, so here done in a more serious tone it's extremely grating. She doesn't even show any appreciation towards him which also makes it worse.

I admit I felt pretty bad for her in the first episode where they give us both their backstories, and then she just ruins it by getting offended at MC calling her family and telling him to leave. He was trying to get along in his own way and she shut him down and tells him to leave for no reason. She just comes off as extremely selfish and entitled. That's why I'm so baffled that people like this girl outside of porn and doujins. I think it's crazy that this is considered the type of girl that otaku idealize. She's cute and all but in no way likable. And not because of character flaws or whatever, but because the writer sucks balls at writing captivating or relatable characters.

A lot of anime make the character a cute, young girl so they don't have to do the hard part of writing to make the audience sympathize with the character through their words and actions, and with Sagiri this is very, very obvious. She's probably one of the cutest characters this season, design-wise. Just add in a few blushes, side glances and fidgeting, and you have a character who in instantly likable to 95% of the otaku audience no matter how entitled they are. No need to deal with that pesky writing stuff.

Yeah, she was pretty generic.
Hell, most of the designs in Nekopara are superior to Sagiri and Sayori has been using the same Vanilla and Chocola Design for like a decade.

Like, damn dude, I'm pretty sure she's based on a Monster Hunter armor too.

Well yeah but you are missing the point. I'm not going to argue Sagiri is a badly written character because she literally gets no character development that explains how she fell in love with Masamune. Reading the stupid webcomic is not enough to warrant that and while being taken care of could potentially be a reason for her love that's still a far-fetched explanaition.

Sagiri is also literally a child, she's not even a teen like the rest of the cast and she grew in a horrible environment and of course you could say she uses the Meruru mask as a way to escape her shyness. She has the same problem as Kirino which is having unrelatable hobbies that she made part of her personality, which is why she can't make friends or so thinks.

Overall, she's indeed a horrible person but I like to believe that's because she's a little girl.

She has the usual A-1 sameface.

Dude, there is a hell of a lot wrong with this anime that goes way beyond Sagiri. We have a 16yo MC who literally popped a boner the moment he met his 11yo sister. The brother is so enthusiastic about keeping her as his little pet that he JOYFULLY (yep joyful) enables all her hikikomori behavior just because he wants to keep her to himself.

The whole situation is fucked up, and both the characters are pure trash. Sagiri's personality and behavior is 100% off from an actual Hikikomori, in fact she's so far away from a hikikomori that it's clear that the author never met one before and that the author used it as a character setting and put ZERO thought into what that would actually mean for Sagiri.

The brother is another monster of bad writing. His character is molded to fit the situation and isn't anything that makes the slightest bit of sense.
1) he's selfless (takes care of sagiri with a smile)
2) he wants to fuck his sister (from minute 1 of meeting her)
3) he's hard working (in fact it's impossible for anyone to work as hard as he does)
4) he's selfish and jealous (he wants to keep sagiri for himself, doesn't want her to go to school or work for anyone else)
5) he's a weird virgin loser (he drops his spaghetti around pretty much any girl for bullshit reasons)

the brother is a horrible mess of a character that couldn't possibly exist. Just about as much of a mess of a character as Sagiri. They're characters designs from the ground up around the scenario. And that scenario is "NBR Bro-Sis want to fuck each other, she's a hikikomori who draws LEWD he's a weird virgin loser who writes LEWD, their parents are dead and he takes care of her like a parent through he wants to stick it in, and she has NONE of the crippling social anxiety or personal hygiene issues which are hand in hand with hikikomori.

this is just softcore porn for nip otakus.
