the first three stages are great, the writing quality drops off pretty sharply after that. The atmosphere is cozy, the characters are relatable (maybe painfully so to some) and the soundtrack may make you reconsider your taste in music. I definitely recommend it.

Yes it's good. Even after all these years it never fails to get me hyped. Especially C121 and FOREVEEEEEEEEER. The overall quality drops from the 4th stage onwards, but the latter seasons still have some great moments.

Watch up to 3rd stage and pretend that was the last episode. There is one good race in 5th stage, but it's not worth the slog. 4th stage and beyond have some of the worst sameface and drawn-out battles in anime, and every single character can ONLY be described by the car they drive and maybe a technique they have.

Many of the races are blown through without giving them much thought or opportunity, especially when it comes to Fifth Stage. Fifth Stage only gets two races that last a similar amount of time as the races in First Stage, all of the others are over in not even half an episode and are disappointing because they feel like nothing.
