This came out during a time when tsunderes were REALLY hated, so when people talked about yanderes which were a archetype that is basically the polar opposite of tsunderes everyone was all like "sign me up"

so people originally liked Mirai Nikki purely for Yuno. Eventually the anime came out and the manga fans warned that this series was shit but it had some fans anyway.
