This one sounds more interesting since maybe those additonal manisfestations can relate to what the person really wants to feel deep inside. Shinji wanting to be strong and steadfast i.e. Gendo and his willingness to sacrifice everything to achieve his goals. Asuka wanting to be a confident and whimsical woman i.e. Misato with her sex appeal and haughtiness. The only thing that would be difficult to explain would be Rei and Ritsuko since they're dramatically different. Maybe Rei's desire to be more out with herself in order to get Gendo's affection more.

I like this one, mainly because it goes with my theory that the main villain of Rebuild isn't Gendo, but it is rather Original Shinji who after Rebuild Shinji fucked everything up decided that Rebuld Shinji needed to be punished and tricked Kaworu with misinformation to ensure that Shinji would cause 4th impact.

I also think that Mari is actually the original Asuka, mainly because a lot of her dialogue suggests that she is older than she looks, her being linked to Asuka i.e. piloting her unit and their combined Eva, along with her being able to get under Asuka's skin and guess her motivations. That as well as her dialogue with Q, claiming that she preferred the original Rei, despite only having one interaction with Rebuild Rei as well as her motivational speech to Shinji makes me quite suspect that she knows way more about each character than they do themselves. Also Kaworu is pretty suspect too with his declaration at the end of 2.22

My main theory about Rebuild is that they are sequel, a twist on Re-Take/Fanfiction and of Anno himself. My idea is that Shinji, Asuka, Kaworu and Rei wanted to ensure that everyone got their happy ending. Asuka became Mari and influenced the souls she came into contact with, more specifically Shinji's parents and the people who would become Nerv's staff to ensure that the more damaging elements of their personality never occurred. Rei became the next Lilith and created the Angels again, while Kaworu went to SEELE, not as a puppet but to ensure that everyone got their happy ending. Shinji created the Rebuild versions of the Children, based off Asuka's manipulations within instrumentality as much more well adjusted individuals, who still had souls almost identical to the originals. However, to ensure that nothing went wrong, Mari inserted herself as a pilot. The whole twist on Anno is Rebuild (Adjustment) overcoming the issues of his old self (Original Eva).

I had some theories that ive forgotten the details of but hear is what i think i remember.
Misato is Lilith, somehow due to the shape of scars and mixup that occurs in both the series and reboot. Other things like her body getting ripped in half in EoE. The mask on Lilith/adam is hiding the fact its characters to the other characters.
Mari is also possibly Lilith or a Seele member. Shes old and not just in a age cursed way shes an adult thats older than the other adults at the start of the movies. Has an affinity for Liliths blood(her own blood?) and can use any Eva.

The manga writing is way better. In the anime you only see a superficial portrayal of Kaji. It's skin-deep. He remains largely static. But in the manga he has the same emotional highs and lows as the rest of the cast.

And this is why I dislike the manga. It misses out on the characterization that made the anime great. Asuka literally needed to die for her to join Instrumentality as she makes it clear that such a thing was horrifying to her as she wished to be accepted for her individuality. Having her accepting it willingly just seems to undermine her as a character.

The worse characterization was Gendo's and Shinji's though. Gendo lost all of his interesting traits as a character and his whole relationship with Shinji went from a complex one between a father and son than that were more similar than they would care to admit to a typical 'asshole' dad versus son. Shinji on the other hand, just became much more of an actively aggressive character and basically became an 'Asuka-Lite' rather than the passive-aggressive character he was in the anime which made his rise and fall a lot more powerful.

It's so easy to trigger self-insert fags. Your entire thing about Gendo is so far removed from reality that it's insane.
Also every single person that speaks in EoE is a Rei clone borrowing their memories and personality from the LCL. We never see Asuka's instrumentality. Not a single bit. The movie is entirely from the perspective of Shinji.

The anime is, by definition, an unfinished, undeveloped product. That's why they needed to make the damn movie.

This is exactly why I don't like the manga. Gendo's death in EoE was a cold and lonely affair. It didn't have him gaining revelations about himself, nor did he gain any sort of closure. At the end of it all, he just admitted to what he was as a person, which was essentially the worse case scenario for Shinji. Then, he asked for forgiveness that he knew he didn't deserve from his son before being devoured by the thing which had been his obsession since his wife passed.

I'm sorry I don't have the same taste you do, but that's just the way I see it.
