Yes. Kanzaka was really reluctant to introduce any romance into the series, and even the Gourry/Lina relationship sort of happened on its own without him intending it.

But since he managed series composition on Next and Try, I assume he must have been okay with Zel and Amelia having a relationship in the anime.

They also have a special relationship in the post-anime series of video games, and in the manga for Evolution-R. Evolution-R was downright romantic by Slayers standards, and we know by the mangaka's afterword that Kanzaka was supervising it, so that part must have gotten his approval.

I suspect Kanzaka just doesn't know how to write romance himself and isn't interested in it, so he was content to let other writers put in some as long as they kept it subtle.

The anime for Revo/Evo-R didn't have many unambiguous hints of Zel/Amelia, which was a little bit of a let-down compared to previous seasons. Still made me happy to see them together all the time though.

Also, these scenes were cute.

One thing to keep in mind about the novels is that since they are told from Lina's first person perspective, we have no idea what the other characters were doing off on their own. Zel and Amelia were apparently spending time alone together without Lina's knowledge, since she was surprised to hear that he had learned Recovery from Amelia. Also, they went off together to battle Hellmaster and we don't know what happened there.

You can probably blame Araizumi-sensei for the idea of a relationship between them, since he seems to have shipped them from early on, and drew this illustration among others, which many Japanese fans think was the catalyst for the ZelAme fandom.

Since there's nothing to contradict them forming a close friendship in the novels, I'll continue to believe that their relationship in the anime is not far-fetched for them.

What did you dislike about that part? I didn't mind that so much. We know from Kanzaka that Zel will eventually find a cure (although he isn't willing to tell us how), so there's probably still one for him in the anime universe even if Rezo said there isn't.

I still want more anime. They should just never bring up Pokota again.

Because they dragged Rezo back into the story and because if I recall correctly, Zelgadis just sort of gave up on finding his cure in the end, which was complete bullshit. Maybe I'm not remembering properly since it's been so long, but I do remember being very disappointed.

He didn't. The epilogue in the last episode shows him off on another journey to find his cure again. At most, he got some closure with Rezo and learned to let go of some of his anger towards him. I don't think that's a bad thing, although I agree that bringing Rezo back at all was unnecessary.
