Well, considering Vivio's motivations and who she's fighting, its natural for the fight to be somewhat brutal.

Vivio needs to give her all to fight Nanoha, and Nanoha will not hold back, especially since she's fighting Vivio.
During the fight Nanoha was going all parent-esque with all the lines about how Vivio became strong when she used to be a weak little kid and whatnot. And she ended the monologue with this.

I think that's why Vivio managed to get Nanoha so damaged.

Against Nanoha, by closing in and keeping the punches up, Vivio would shut off Nanoha's ranged firepower and force her to guard.
If she tried the same shit against Miura, Miura would outpunch Vivio and smash Vivio into the ground when given the chance, its like if Nanoha could deliver her firepower in a pure melee form.

Against someone who doesn't usually fight in melee, meleeing the shit out of them works well, but against someone who fights in melee all day everyday, going melee on that person is not exactly a good idea.

StrikerS is my favorite because it has a lot of good characters, the best worldbuilding and Nanoha gets to be badass at the end.
