I just recently watched this and for the first few episodes I was both surprised and impressed. The animation started off great but towards episode 6 or 7 it took a huge nosedive. The same can be said about the story. I of course was confused and initially blamed it all on the studio being shit (which was definitely part of the problem - how do blow your entire budget in 6 episodes?) but then I tried reading the manga and I didn't make it past chapter 4.

Part of my issue was how badly it was translated, whoever was working on it clearly wasn't fluent in English. But even at the source, it had many flaws. The art was kind of meh, the story progression was shaky and I just couldn't get into it. The studio definitely made the right choice by switching up the order of chapters 2 and 3 because it just didn't make sense the way the mangaka did it. It truly is a shame that the anime couldn't keep up the quality throughout its run but alas.

Heres hoping we get Baccano!s real successor soon. Or just pray for a miracle and it gets a season 2.
