Have you ever heard of Tokyo Ghoul? Tumblr went insane thrice with that story. They were so much cancer that they shipped the MC with his best friend to death, spread another ship because a guy was revealed to be gay, spread that a crossdressing girl was a tranny and so on. The "tranny" raped a guy and admitted being a woman while doing so. To this day, the Tokyo Ghoul wikia page for Tooru Mutsuki mentions "sex" instead of "gender" is fully written as if she is male and has like 20 guidelines to follow when editing the article due to this. Second shitstorm: gay character died like a clown. This one they didn't seem to care much because got in the way of another ship.

Third shitstorm, the one that seemingly halved tumblr. MC and main girl had sex. Aoi is one of the most interesting characters in YGO so far and a great example of weaving storytelling with character development, despite a horrid visual budget.

We know that she's only got her step brother as surviving family, and like all girls that age, she craves recognition from her Brother. But being married to the job, he has little time for her and disapproves of her hobbies. Not only does this tie her into the main plot via her brother, but it provides her a reason to involve herself with Playmaker.

She quite obviously distrusts people. She is paranoid, considers people around her to just be interested in networking with her to get to her brother or get freebies. In fact, the only person she can trust has no time for her. She thinks she's not pretty or cute, so she distrusts all around her. This mindset, combined with crippling loneliness, contributes to her depression in the real world.

Her online avatar, is quite the opposite. Where Aoi is quiet and reserved, Blue Angel is loud and outspoken. She's an idol, where Aoi is just part of the crowd. The avatar itself is her ideal, and we can gleam a lot from it. Her hair. Not only does she want to stand out, with the loud colours and whatnot, she wants to go back to her happy childhood, thus her childhood hair. Her avatar is buxom and womanly, compared to Aoi's lackluster body. Blue Angel is everything Aoi wishes to be, and her only escapism from her real world. As Blue Angel, she has power. She has people who like her. She's beautiful and popular and everything she desires. It's one massive power trip.

It makes for an interesting contrast with Go, who fights not for himself, but for his fans. He has no insecurities regarding his body, only insecurities regarding his own motivation. A quaint contrast

Aoi is a fascinating character so far and I hope we get to see a lot more of her and I hope she develops on the above points. So far, she's Jack tier in terms of interesting character-ness.

Neither Zexal nor 5Ds outrightly do that.
