It's pretty much the opposite of Shirobako for better and worse. The "main" girls are actually properly treated as such and far more entertaining characters than they were in Shirobako, but the pacing and relatability of that show are mostly absent in this one. Watching this makes me think Shirobako was a happy accident where the director knew how to portray what he did every day so much better than to create a 5 character workplace show that the strengths of the former aspect more than made up for the weaknesses of the latter.

I also dropped it for a couple weeks but caught back up and really enjoy it now.

the main difference is the pace of their work - Shirobako girls are deadline junkies, constantly late, never satisfied with their work, as there's always someone to undercut you - the first thing Aoi does in the series as a professional is racing that guy from not-IG

meanwhile Sakura Quest girls have to deal with an industry that is absurdly reticent and obstinate, whatever grand plans they have simply drown in the sea of communal apathy, perfectly content with slowly dying out

Why is it so hard to make a cast so humane and interesting as in HanaIro?
