What is the fucking difference between Macross and Robotech?

Robotech is Macross (and like two other unrelated series butchered together) with the Funimation treatment.

Robotech is a buncha shit added after the Macross saga and basically never got any continuation. Macross is a fairly successful franchise with several movies and series.

Robotech had a really kickass game on the PS2-gen consoles, though, and a fairly OK followup that might have only released on the Xbox.

Macross is a mediocre franchise spiralling into irrelevancy because manchild Kawamori is a demented pervert who can't not make his fetishes the centerpiece of his work. Robotech is the salvation of Macross by we at Harmony Gold, who recognized the inherent but never-developed value of Macross as proper military science fiction. You're welcome.
