Why was it so awful?
Anno ruined it with his voice acting. It also took from EoE with the whole thing about your reality and dreams being at the end of each other. If I wanted dreaminess, I'd have watched Paprika.
But it's his best film.

I loved it.

Because you prefer movies without an actual plot and characters which is why you think shit like Totoro, Kikis, Sumseba are good movies, or praise the mess that is Nausicaa which falls off so hard after the first 60 minutes that it might aswell not have tried in the first place. The Wind Rises is by far his best movie, followed by Spirited Away. Almost all his other movies can go into the bin.
The Sequel is better though.

It wasn't awful, it was 'specific'.
Why is this so comfy?
It wasn't that bad. Why did they introduce his love interest? I mean she didn't really exist?

-60 year old man voicing a 20 year old man with 0 passion
- MC started to be less of a person and more like a wandering husk during the second half.
- Zero interesting monologues during the latter half.

He killed millions.

But it was good, still the only anime that made me cry.

I thought it was the point? You need to be more jaded to understand this anime. Also, clear parallels between the MC and Miyazaki himself.

Miyazaki realised he was going to run out of money halfway through retirement and had to throw some shit out as fast as possible. Turns out he's back anyway
