That's the lowest common denominator of being tsun tsun. Prison School is one of the few that actually use the abuse gag fairly well, since it completely inverts the expectations of Kiyoshi and the audience that everyone is being tortured when in fact they've found a personal heaven. It's also portraying a relationship that is inherently hostile instead of pretending that senseless abuse is a show of love and care underneath the violence.

If you're asking for what her problem is in general, the answer is simple. Low Self-Esteem, Heavy Responsibilities, and all the other shit that comes in with being a Nobel in a caste system

First of all, she's supposed to be a noble, BUT for whatever reason, she can't use magic. Her peers look down on her, her family doesn't take her seriously, and whenever she tries magic, it either flat out doesn't work, or everything explodes. She's given the nickname 'Zero", as in her chances of making magic work. Keep in mind, she's enrolled in a school for magic. She doesn't have a chance in hell. So her future is pretty much going to be going back home to do nothing, or getting in a marriage for politics or some shit like that.

But then, it's time to summon a familiar. You know the deal with this, you get a companion, apparently you get better a magic and so on and so forth. So while everyone is summoning salamanders, dragons, moles, and other cool, shit, Louise tries it...and summons some guy with weird clothes. Whoops! Looks like she fucked up again, Zero indeed. Added bonus, unlike other familiars, he doesn't seem to intent on listening all that much.

Eventually, she gets to know him better, and starts to fall for him....BUT WAIT! Turns out that that whole familiar thing fucks with your brain (to reduce homesickness). So is it magic that makes him like her, or is it him? So, she does the "right thing" and cuts him loose. (you know, this is animu, they don't talk about their problems here). This is after she almost jumped off a building, thinking that he died in a big battle.


Oh, and to top it off, she's flat-chested and has small hips. You know, women's issues.

Fun Fact: In the Light Novels, Louise apparently "gets better" starting around Vol 8 - After Saito sacrifices himself to stop the army Louise spends an entire volume going through depression. She locks herself in her room, refuses to eat, and eventually it gets too much she tries to commit suicide by throwing herself from the tower. She ends up getting saved by Siesta and together they vow to search the world for Saito. After hearing some rumors they travel to the woods to find the elf and there they reunite with Saito - she then tries to spend a night with him but the guy himself couldn't even comprehend the sheer development in her that he had to go offend her again just to see if she was "okay".
