Jump is a reader input publication so if they reason why they publish "bland" titles its essentially what readers want or if the mangaka is so unsure of his work he'll follow the input of the editor toe to toe to help it stay a lot. Honestly this goes for most manga publications, the most popular titles are always usually the most bland because they appear to most people versus something out the ordinary. The main reason why Shounen Champion gets so little attention is because none of their titles publish have appeal except for a fujoshi laden cycling mangaalso a lot of their titles aren't very good.

The problem is that the Magazine doesn't have future author, he has few rookies and I don't remember a promising one shot.They think with Mashima, Seo ,Oimi,... doing new series the magazine will be doing ok, I won't be surprise if this year or the next, Kaitani, Miki Yoshikawa, Mashima, Area no kishi artist , Kouji Megumi or inclusive a new School rumble series/sequel begin in the magazine.
Sunday in the other hand is scoring and having new promising author, it can be a hit or a flop but the author of Yokai giga, Evans, komi san, Dagashi, amano,RYOKO ,... is a decent list and can replace the last generation of author.

It might be on the less popular side but it made up for it by having a great artist draw tons of fanart for the pairing. I stumbled onto their website in probably 08 or 09 just by randomly clicking through Japanese web pages. This was before Pixiv was really a thing so it was much harder to find art back then. I was surprised to find those pictures are still floating around on Google but there they are.

The shota market is definitely untapped potential which I could kind of see cropping up within the next few years but its a shaky subject. Yeah, Japan isn't all that PC but considering the assumed target for shota are females then that causes a bit of confusion between lust and motherly instincts. A lot of women will just find it weird whereas there are plenty of dudes who have no hang ups about loli. I think for shota to become the next big thing, or even the next mildly successful thing, they're going to have to find a way to make it appealing without the sexualization involved. I myself am disappointed by that prospect as sexualized shotas are just as good as sexualized lolis but considering how most women are I just can't think of an alternative.
I've said this before and I'll say it again. I think the female demographic will be what saves animes future for a period of time until they can come up with something new. With the runaway success of not only Osomatsu-san but also Yuri on Ice which owe almost everything to female fans, I do think Japan is starting to see that if you market towards them right they're even more willing to spend money than male otaku. Anime aimed at women has been sparse and what little did crop up over the years was almost always a huge let down. Most studios just wont put in the money or effort because the 'women don't buy anime' meme has been alive and well for a long time now but Osomatsu and Yuri disproved that. Whether you like it or not, I think we're slowly leaving the loli/moe age and moving into female oriented shows which, to be clear, does not mean shojo. The only term that currently applies is fujo but thats not necessarily correct. A lot of female Osomatsu fans don't pair the boys together, they're just normal girls who like the show, so I'm not sure what to label the group as a whole.
