After watching the movies and reading Kizu and first two Bake novels, my opinion of her has gone up immensely. Senjougahara still a shit.

Owari Koyomi is him at an all time low to be fair, pretty much everything from the end of Shinobu Time onwards is everything constantly blowing up in his face. You can call him shit for how he attempted to handle the Nadeko situation but that entire situation itself was caused just by him attempting to be Nadeko's friend (he moreorless treated Kanbaru the same way and she turned out alright)

I don't dislike Senjougahara but admittedly I don't like her and Araragi together much. Feels like they both have more enjoyable banter with almost everyone else they interact with, the only parts of Hitagi Rendezvous that I remember were the Ougi, Yotsugi and Tsukihi parts when the main plot of that little arc was Araragi & Senjougahara going on a date even.

It's not that she's "too normal" either like what some people insist, I don't consider her to be all that normal at all honestly.

No, if you need better clarification, read the novel. Even Black Hanekawa says that Hitagi is the one person she never hated. What the Tiger did was burn down whatever she thought of as a good home in the metaphorical sense, a place to belong.

But then she faced Kako and told it to come back to her when she realized her envy and it didn't magically stop, it was going to burn her to death, it's own creator, and then burn Hitagi's house down.

Hell, people get annoyed that Araragi helped her, but that was an opponent that wasn't going to go away like Hitagi's Crab when she asked it to give back her weight.

Kako was legit powerful and out of control, Hanekawa knew that if she held onto it to try to energy drain it into herself that she would burn to death before it finished, that was in the novel too. Araragi pretty much got a sneak attack with a sword no oddity can resist dying from, that was why it looked so easy.

No, see Neko Shiro, she said she always in the back of her mind wanted to get along with her parents, but after awhile, she thought it was a lost cause, and we found out it actually was. It was that she lived so long doing that it became a routine to follow rules like a machine.

The thing most Monogatari fans misunderstand with Hanekawa is that her parents never wanted this marriage in the first place, and neglected her primarily because she gave them no good excuse to throw her to the orphanage. Heck, she even had friends she confided in about her family issues who shunned her upon seeing the household. They give you hints throughout the story that people took advantage of Hanekawa for a long time(remember Black Hanekawa who went berserker rage on Araragi in Kuro saying "Don't push your expectations on Mistress while giving nothing in return!" That was important to note).

It's pretty obvious when you pay attention to everything. It's not an excuse for the bad things she did do, but it gives context to her mind and motive.

They go on about her desire to be normal in Tsubasa Song, which you should read. But the thing is the story basically is telling you she isn't normal, her mindset isn't normal, but she desires to be normal.

Its like trying to dismiss Hitagi's issues as just family problems. Or Kanbaru's as petty envy without looking at any context.

The very reason there was three arcs was because the root problem was never solved, nor do most of the Hanekawa detractors see that she actually does make progress, but its a more realistic thing than "hero helps, magically everything is okay".

That, and unlike Hitagi, who had her father to help heal her after her arc(she goes with him to visit her family and has good father/daughter bonding, which helps makes sense why she is such a hardcore daddycon later).

Hanekawa doesn't really have anyone, and Araragi's response at the end of Kuro, telling Hanekawa to keep the facade because she's "strong". Then literally forgetting to have that talk with her about the Sawarineko post Tsubasa Cat.

Then we have the rejection scene in Shiro, Hanekawa asking him whether it was okay to change was a callback to his answer to her in Kuro. And it's not like that ended happily either, she just accepted she never had parents that loved her and her childhood was a waste, requested a room until she graduated, and moved on.

You might not like her, but I'd say the story and narrative building to the climax is pretty good.

Had you said that regarding almost every other of the stories, I would have at least understood where you are coming from with this instead of just disagreeing.

But Kizu more than any of the other stories (at least in the novel, haven't gotten around to watch all of Kizu yet) showed just how abnormal her behaviour is and how, combined with her uncanny intelligence, it just is bound to invite disaster to those around her.

She tries to make things right, but that's not possible for people who aren't like her, so she just ends up making things worse for those around her while making the attempt.

I really don't dislike her, she's pretty alright as a person on her own. But she's dangerous to be around, and even more unhealthy to have a realtionship with, which is exactly what Koyomi realises during golden week.

Now whether his actual choice is any better in that regard is a whole different can of worms...

Well, she does help Araragi on his journey quite a bit. She convinced him not to commit suicide when both Meme and Shinobu were kinda lackidasical about it, and helped show Araragi that Shinobu was playing suicide by cop all along with him at the end, under threat of her super eye lasers too.

Then we have Owari, where, not to spoil it for people who haven't read it, but he'd have killed himself for good without her efforts.
