Pretty much this. He goes at everything full throttle, and when he feels like people competing with him aren't doing the same, he thinks they're looking down on him.

When Ochako fought him, she was clearly pulling out all of the stops, and he respected that a lot. He was disappointed when she hit her limit just as he was really starting to feel the burn, but he wasn't angry or anything. When other people talked about Ochako like she was weak and he was beating up on her for fun, he got annoyed that they weren't giving her her due.

Bakugou got mad at Demi in kid in part because Bakugou was kind of a shit as a kid, but also because he already had his eyes set on the top. When Quirkless Deku says "I want to be a hero", Bakugou hears "I think being a hero is so easy I can do it without even having a quirk or exercising". When Deku suddenly gets OfA, that makes Bakugo even angrier, because now imaginary-Deku-in-Bakugou's-head was saying that he didn't think Bakugou was even worth revealing he had a quirk to.

And then Todoroki goes all out against Deku but holds back his fire side against Bakugou (and even Deku was bugged by Todoroki holding back). That's not just disrespect, it's "I think Deku is better than you". The victory feels hollow because Todoroki is basically saying, provably "Yeah, I lost, but I wasn't *really* trying".

Well put. This is what I assumed about Bakugou's character, and I am surprised when other readers don't get it. I'm not really a fan of him, but at the very least I understand him and his reasoning. It kind of comes down to "Her quirk isn't very scientifically rigorous", because sometimes it affects mass, sometimes it doesn't, all depending on what looks cooler.

Given that it'd probably be written to reduce his mass, too, it means that even if he doesn't immediately rocket himself out of bounds from his own recoil, he can't productively stay in one place anymore--he's stuck flying through a rubble field. Now he has to be the one to approach Ochako, and he's forced to make more blasts so he can maneuver, and smaller ones because he has to avoid blowing himself out of the ring.
