You don't need to feel compelled to finish it just because you've started it. Try it out and drop it if you don't like it.

Basically, if you love mysteries, you'll find it addictive.

Early series do the cases better, each feeling like a story with proper tension build ups. Late series have the cases taking a background and it's more about the overarching plot that gets developments alongside the cases.

I remember this being on adult swim. It was good from what I remembered. I recommend watching episodes between other animes and not solely focusing on case closed.

I remember seeing this for the first time in the 90s and back then the longest I have seen an anime air was one season, what a disappointment it was when Conan didn't turn back into adult form by the last episode of season1, I graduated grade school, been to middle school then high school and college, and then back to middle school as a teacher, changed professions and this stuff hasn't ended, by god op you don't need to get into this, it'll suck the life out of you.

Creating a false identity is a problem, it's a crime. They even mention that they aren't going to do it for Shinichi to go to London as Conan. As Shiho she can have a normal life. She has Agasa and Shinichi and would easily become friends with Ran, Sonoko, and Sera. She is a genius so she could easily get a nice research job. She'd probably be bored to death going through the education system again too, assuming that APTX victims actually do age. If she stays a kid, she's running away from her old life, which is something I don't think she will do.
