Cat Returns is actually pretty nice as a kid-oriented adventure flick, it just doesn't really have that Ghibli spirit.
Pom Poko is alright too and has some really great moments but it's about half an hour too long and probably would have worked better as an OVA series than as a movie.
Haven't seen Earthsea but it looks pretty shit.

I think that's actually worth noting, Miyazaki has never in his life directly referred to himself as a feminist. The only source is his boss calling him that based on the fact that he wants women in animation, which is not enough to define him as a feminist. Ikuhara is probably even more leftist than Miyazaki about gender; yet, he refuses the feminist label & says he's not interested in the movement.

So you're talking designs and drawn artistry as opposed to the actual animation. It is worth keeping in mind the difference between that, and animation quality though. While you might not appreciate the character designs and art style nearly as much, Ghibli is essentially unrivaled when it comes to full animation. Even while other shows/movies have their moments, Ghibli films tend to stay consistently top notch throughout.
