What are the elements that make a great/successful /sp/ series? Why do so many fail?

They focus more on relationships than tactics
>Ping Pong in the same category as any of the other five

One of those is not like the others
Thing is most sports anime/manga is only good early on. When they first introduce the characters and their interactions and the matches is usually all fun but the problem is most sports series fall of a cliff after that initial period. This is mainly because the author starts following the same old cliches of training arcs, unnecessary new characters, same old formula in matches etc. Just take a look at something like Yowamushi Pedal. Up till the end of the first tournament everything was interesting and well-done but now it just feels like it's being forced to keep going.
Also, I don't know why Ping Pong is included in that list because it's really not a sports show at all.

What's wrong with saying fujoshi is an element of making a successful /sp/ series?
Is Yawara better as an anime or a manga?
