I didn't read the LN so I only know second hand, but I was told She'd been suspicious of Aria because of another demon sword they encountered so she was keeping her in a sheath that prevented her from transforming while inside but keeps her aware of what's going on around her, when the rape happened she had Aria in the sheath but rapist threw the sword & sheath away from them so she couldn't pull Aria out for help.
