Musashi is fighting the wrong guys.

He thinks Ogre is who he is looking for since the time he was alive but turns out the Purity he is searching for is going to be Ogre's father, instead, you know the guy who fucked up American soldiers during WW2 and his spirit appeared during Baki's fight with his father.

Ogre is kinda impure in a way since he loves good food, luxurious apartments, good women, and likes to bully all the world's leaders.

Meanwhile, Ogre's father did not care about all that. He was living on some island before the Americans came.

Either they clone Ogre's father of Ogre's father is still alive.

Hanayama is pure. That's what makes him a great character. He doesn't lie not even to himself. There is no bullshit about him as you get with Baki or Orge. He's already dealt with his own problems. He has no regrets. He's living a life with purpose which is something you can't say about any other Baki character.

I'm reminded of just how much better this series was before Baki won that tournament. Every part afterwards has been hollow to me because Baki started to act like his father and Yuujiro is nowhere near as interesting a character as pretty much any other fighter. This was also before the nonsense that is Imagination took over.

I think part of the problem comes from the fact that the series didn't end at the third installment. If you pretend that Yuujiro vs Baki is the end, you lose at least some of the feeling of hollowness. Baki slowly acting more and more like Yuujiro across the series was, I believe, very deliberate. But, the main differences still remain: Baki isn't arrogant, and Baki is reluctant to kill. Yuujiro is nowhere near either of those things. Baki also has a slightly less-hot temper, but I don't think that's different enough to count as really distinct.

the turning point for Baki to becoming what he is today was when he asked Orge why "why did you kill Mom",

when Orge basically tells him "its non of your fucking business faggot" , Baki AGREES WITH HIM. The old Baki would have never agreed. Orge is ONLY ABLE to get away with saying that because he is invicibly strong. He isn't right philosophically, morally, logically, or as a "Parent"

it was so frustrating to watch Baki bitch out on actually making Orge accountable for once in his life. He could have still forgiven Orge after hearing an explanation.

That's part of what makes the Kuriyagawa chapters in the third series so important. At the end, Baki says/realizes that his fighting his father won't be because he wants revenge for Emi. He would have wanted to fight Yuujiro whether he had killed her or not. Maybe he had convinced himself for a time that it was about his mother, but it's really just his desire to surpass his father.

hat is why the matter of Emi's death is none of Baki's business; it wouldn't actually change anything for Baki. It's not related to the reason for their fight. Yuujiro doesn't know that, but Baki does.

Baki's motivations turned out in the end to be EXACTLY like Orges. They turned into the same character after that, Baki turned into Orge-lite.

I saw the 1994 OVA for the first time recently. I never even knew it existed, I thought it was just the anime and that new OVA.

It's honestly good, the animation is solid.

Yeah, I have to agree here that the pacing is pretty bad. Literally the only thing that happened is that Hanayama punched the dude in the face. That's literally all. That's pretty bad. Even Bleach's worst paced chapters had something more going on in them.
