The anime is really fun.

It's kind of coincidental/convenient that the manga slowly becomes less fun after the anime part, so I just recommend to watch the anime and be done with it.

I picked it up just because I was bored and ran out of mangas to read. It's interesting but does have a few boring spots imo. If you have nothing else to read at the moment I'd say go for it.

There's some weaker parts around 700-800 or so, but it's still excellent and has improved since then.

It's my favorite series and I'll always recommend it.

Honestly Rising is such a poor adaption I'd switch to the manga after New Challenger if you'd want to do that.

Trying to read it weekly or whenever MS feels like releasing a chapters is painful because Morikawa just ends randomly ends half the chapters in the middle of a sentence.

This. The quality and storytelling are pretty consistent. The drama for each fight kind of lost some steam though considering that Ippo struggled out a win for every fight and they never change the formula. That said the current arc is pretty good and it's nice to see Ippo dominate a fight for a change.

iirc, when I marathoned the whole series (read all the manga to current, and then went back and watched the anime series), the manga was in the 700s and the second season of the anime hadn't started yet.

Ippo threads were more active back then, especially with the Itagaki shit.

It was, and still is, a very fun ride. I don't think I'd be able to do it now if I tried, though. There's much more content (400+ more chapter and two anime seasons) then there was back then, and I have considerably less time now.
