is older anime better than today's anime

who is this semen demon?
No

I personally feel like the animation from anime these days pale in comparison to the animation from even the early 2000s
I'm not even talking about the animation quality or the fps I'm just talking about the basic principles of animation.
>>158339884
It's a lot easier to appreciate older Anime when you don't have to sit through all the seasonal shit and can just watch the classics. I wouldn't say Anime used to be better or anything though, it fluctuates in quality. Animation quality has objectively gone down though.

Yes.
I've said it before and I'll say it again. This is a discussion that needs to stop popping up because a consensus is never going to be reached. Some people prefer old anime, some people prefer new anime. Its all about personal preference which means there is no objective facts, only subjective opinions.
Whats more, both have their pros and cons. Old anime reused a lot of stock footage and while there are certainly modern series that do so (Precure) its much less common. New anime can do things that old series just weren't capable of, like the forced animation meme thats somehow gaining traction on this board. Sure, old anime had lots of sakuga moments too but once again its much more common with todays technology. And as far as the endless debate about shading goes, it really doesn't affect anything other than visual preference. It doesn't affect the story or the quality of the art or how shit the animation is. I can find low quality anime with shading but I'm sure you'd find a way to hype it up anyway.
The only thing that old anime has going for it over new stuff is the fact we can cherry pick the best that was released. If you're watching modern anime, you need to try a little bit of everything each season to find the gems (which apparently a lot of /a/nons dont do?) but when it comes to old anime, the shit has more or less been pruned from rec threads and such. I personally watch a little bit of everything and I'm better off for it. Just went from season 2 of Jigoku Shojo to Saint Tail and I must admit I'm rather impressed by the animation in the latter but how many /a/nons have seen Saint Tail? How many would even be willing to watch it? This board is in a sad state of repair and these stupid new vs old arguments are doing the exact opposite of improving /a/'s quality.

>dirty old dark skinned man
no no no yes
>>158341065
Not to say that old anime doesn't have shading mistakes in it, but where the fuck is the light source on the left, like holy shit what's even going on there.
>>158339884
Yes. Anime has gotten so good at cost cutting it barely qualifies as animation anymore.
>>158346621
If only we could go back....
>>158342314
>there's no objectivity in art
This kind of thinking is why modern shows are flooded with horrific looking CG shit.
Computers killed anime. We will never see anything like this again.
I really like blurays of old anime. The way they used to color and shade shit is way nicer.
>>158346728
This. CG as a tool is a mistake. It has nothing to do with the skill of the artist.
>>158339884
yes and no, there was good share of shitty animes with shitty animation out there. But nowadays, everyone is scared with trying something new, and just puts out boring shit you already have seen every fucking season. Because it will sell anyway. On another note, when animation studios are cutting budget so much, and technology walks forwads all the time - maybe we will see ,,indie" anime industry sooner or later. Indie proves to be a mine of originality. We already had RWBY. Situation will change, just wait.I miss cyberpunk.
>>158347103
>rwby is anime
Wew fuck off
>>158347103
>everyone is scared with trying something new, and just puts out boring shit you already have seen every fucking season
Very true. This opinion is surely from someone who watches more than 3 anime a season.
>>158346729
good riddance
>>158339884
Not all older anime is better than all newer anime, but the greats of old anime for the most part tower over the best of today.

>showing my normie friend Cowboy Bebop, while we are drugged on ecstasy
>I highly approve this metod of watching CB, btw
>,,The work, which becomes a new genre itself, will be called... COWBOY BEBOP"
you lied to me ;-;
I wouldn't call myself that knowledgeable on the subject - I simply don't have time for watching this much animeys. I have to be picky with what I watch. Maybe that's the reason.
>>158339884
Yes
