The animation is debatable, but everything in old anime, from the directing, soundtrack, artstyle and stories is clearly better. Also R I P anime noses, because drawing is too hard.
Only shitty kids with their first anime being Naruto will disagree.

Even Naruto had good art and good directing when it first started.

The talent pool in Japanese animation was huge back then, artists knew how to draw, each had their own techniques to pull off impressive visuals with limited budget etc and they always payed attention to detail.

The new generation of "artists" only know how to draw moeshit.
