Hidamari Sketch, I usually like slice of life but this was pretty boring. No wonder the people who post about it are always drunk

I do extensive research on a series before watching it (read reif synopsis, check reviews, make sure it's a genre I enjoy, watch the series, read the manga, re-make the series, interview the creators, make a western live-action adaptation of the series, post about it on /a/, post about it on the official fan-forums, ask a friend if he's seen it and ask for a quick review, etc.) so that doesn't happen to me.

Fuck you. Princess Tutu, Monster, and Haibane Renmei are great. You can hate on Eva, LOGH, or Ghost in the Shell all you want to, but you have to admit that lots of this stuff is not just "overrated trash", and actually has some merits. The only ABe anime I actually enjoyed was Haibane Renmei. It's the one that felt the less tryhard and the characters actually questioned the symbolism present in the show instead of being stoic bricks.

And I liked that instead of just presenting philosophical questions, it actually did something worthwhile with it, actual drama revolving around those while proposing an introspective and cathartic experience.

It's the only one of the three big ABe anime that was actually created by him, and that didn't involve screenwriter Konaka Chiaki at all. It's based off a doujin manga written by him, so it's more of a personal work than either Texhnolyze or Serial Experiments Lain (both of which were based off original concepts by producer Ueda Yasuyuki, in which ABe had very little involvement at all, other than in making character designs).
