However, when i first saw it i wasn't browsing /a/ so i wasn't as "aware" of these things as i am now, and i remember thoroughly enjoying that fight. The animation felt impactful and dynamic..and it's still better than what we see today in DBS and Berserk in my opinion. 2011 was what I started with, it's a really good anime honestly. The story starts out simple but it continuously gets better, with the Chimera Ant arc and the Yorknew arc especially being some of the best shounen has to offer.

Have fun though, it's a pretty fun series overall, pretty hard not to get invested in it once you get going.

That's a misconception caused by the fact that the US dropped measuring instruments to get data on the blasts and those had parachutes so the Nips assumed that the bombs had them too.
Some later nuclear bombs have been dropped with parachutes but that's generally just to give the bomber time to escape the blast radius.

You said the action was good but it still has the silly katana tropes.

The katana is one of the worst swords in history. The Japanese had poor quality iron and learned to fold the metal to remove impurities like celtic and nordic tribes learned 1000 years before they did.

They then created a pretty blade that functionally useless. It has a large draw cut which doesn't work in combat. It's single edged meaning you can only cut in one direction and the point is so big because the sword is so thick that it won't penetrate any decent level of protective armor. In other words, it's the equivalent of a metal club sharpened on one side.

A far more effective and more used weapon by the Samurai was the naginata while the katana mainly served as a decoration to indicate status.

All this action in this gif is basically still a shit show because if it was a proper sword fight in a modern age, you'd probably choose a broadsword with a basket hilt for this style of battle. Or if you wanted to be edgy, you could get a claymore and hold it by the blade and bash them with the pommel or use it like a spear. I.E: How weapons were actually used in combat.

That's not true though. Judges and critics are almost never professionals at the art form or sport they're critiquing and most likely never were. They are professionals at recognizing differences in said art or sport and judging better and worse examples. The best sports coaches on earth are fat dudes in their 40s and 50s who've trained people for years but are about as unfit as it gets.
