Meme words aside, it is a great show that goes all out with its own creative style and philosophy, but could just never appeal to a larger audience becuase that style and philosophy aren't enjoyabe to most people.

It was ambitious and creative in its style, and though it lacked a simple element of coherence to pull it all together into a great anime, presuming its goal was to advertise and sell the VN without being obnoxious about it, it did a fine job. Overall, maybe not a masterpiece, but still pretty gud.

It was pretty. the direction was pretty on point, made a lot of normalfags drop it early because of the nonlinearity of the plot and the fast paced scenes.
The foreshadowing was pretty great too.

If not for 3gatsu, it would have been AOTY. The show is unbelievably well directed, maybe even over-directed, but the visuals fit the narrative's tone and pace so well, that it is hard to complain about it. I wouldn't call it a masterpiece tho, the plot is just okay.

It adds to the feelings of confusion and abstract removal from reality that the characters are feeling. I agree that it wasn't implemented well especially since it's only used in one episode, but that's the nature of a TV production where every episode is directed by a different sub-director. I'm just surprised and glad the execs overseeing it all let the sub-directors have enough creative freedom to do abstract shit like that at all.

That is a very subjective point. The story portrays its main character to be particularly pretentious, obnoxious and pathetic, but if you're able to step back and just objectively see that as a part of his character, then instead of being annoyed you'll enjoy it. And seeing that part of him slowly disappear throughout the final episodes of the show as he develops and decides to protect his friends, you'll get a sense of satisfaction. As for the other characters, I thought most of them were charming, or at least just kinda boring, I can't help you if you found them annoying.

Read the pastebin in the last post you replied to which goes in depth about how the show's story was meticulously structured to convey a sense of speed and chaos while also keeping the mystery plots on track and comprehensible. The writting in the show is great, possibly the best ever seen from an LN adaptation (not a high bar to leap, I know, but still).

It was easily the best and most consistently animated series in the season. The direction and cinematography in each episode was absolutely perfect that it never failed to give me a hard-on on the whole duration it was airing.

The OST is pretty good too, and the OP and ED are definitely one of the best. If it aired back pre-2011 together with other series where almost all shit were plot-heavy or at least carries some weight/substance the it might've been a hit.

I mostly watched it for the best boy though, pic related.
