With drawing softwares (wich are often used by mangakas and doujinshi authors nowadays) it's extremely easy to Ctrl+C Ctrl+V a drawing or a part of it, change it slightly with the transform tool to be a bit closer to what you want, and then draw your own picture over it. The result end up being different enough to not appear 100% traced. If you have some drawing skills to begin with, you can redraw a few limbs/change clothes and keep drawing over the original.

It is. If you can shorten your work by using a model that's already correct why shouldn't you use it ? Take this >>158180190 , it's a pose that's quite complicated, and manga artists have short deadlines. So it's either use a 3D model to get a perfect base to work on, or spend time suffering to get a result that isn't guaranteed to be good.
In animation artists use video references and even 3D models (wich they'll draw over in 2D) all the fucking time. The only reason they don't all go the tracing route is because rotoscoping is a very unique "style" wich looks nothing like realistic animation.

Since manga authors face similar ordeals (doing complicated drawings in a short amount of time), it's completely ok to use those tools.

And comparing it to tracing another artist is a false equivalence. When you trace another artist you're just stealing his work. When you trace a pic or a 3D model you're producing something in a different medium. Of course overdoing it is clearly a sign of laziness and/or lack of skill. But as long as it's well used I have no problem with it.
