For narrative, it doesn't seem to bring cathartic resolution. I don't comprehend Japanese storytelling meta completely, and yet even though I understand bittersweet plots are a staple of Jap stories, I still don't feel her character was resolved either positively or negatively than when she started.

Explain further. The only pro she had in terms of story was to bring light to the defeatist attitude of Shoko that never changed arguably even up to the end.

Otherwise I feel she was fairly bland and mostly a foil to how Shoya would have turned out if he weren't ostracized. Which I can appreciate literarily but definitely not on an emotional level.
